Work + Social Inequality Predoctoral Research Fellow

Position description

Professors David Pedulla and Daniel Schneider (Department of Sociology and Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard University) are recruiting one full-time predoctoral research fellow to start in summer 2023. The fellow will support and collaborate on multiple survey and experimental projects related to work and social inequality, assist with data cleaning and analysis, and contribute to research reports and papers.

The successful applicant will receive mentoring from faculty and have access to a broad range of activities at Harvard. This opportunity is likely to provide experience that will be particularly relevant for individuals interested in pursuing a PhD in Sociology, Psychology, Economics, or Public Policy.

This position is based in the Department of Sociology at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. Appointment terms for Fellows are for one year with the strong potential for a second-year renewal. Preference will be given to applicants who have availability to work for two years.

Responsibilities

· Assist with survey data collection by preparing online survey instruments, facilitating survey recruitment, and processing survey data

· Assist with designing, implementing, and analyzing field experiments and survey experiments related to work, social inequality, discrimination, and bias

· Conduct statistical analyses of data and process and clean raw data using Stata

· Prepare literature reviews, background research, and other content for grant proposals and academic papers

· Assist in coordinating research teams that include professors, post-docs, graduate students, and undergraduate students

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Required

· Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Public Policy, Economics, or related field

· Outstanding organizational and time management skills

· Distinguished academic record

· Significant research interest in sociology, inequality, labor, and public policy

· Strong written and oral communication skills

· Proficiency programming in Stata

Additional Qualifications:

Preferred

· Experience creating surveys in Qualtrics

· Experience with R and/or Python

· Prior experience as a research assistant or fellow in sociology, labor studies, public policy, or economics

· Experience with citation management software, preferably Endnote or Zotero
