Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. MAP is the leading UK charity delivering health and medical care to those worst affected by conflict, occupation and displacement, in the Gaza Strip.
MAP is currently experiencing a period of rapid growth, which is partly in response to the ongoing crisis in the occupied Palestinian territory. This role is being created to provide additional management and leadership support during this crucial time. You will work closely with and deputise the Director of Gaza while they are based in Egypt and preparing for the expansion of MAP’s operations and programs.
As part of your role, you will collaborate with the Director of Gaza to drive work in key areas related to MAP’s organisational scale-up. This will include overseeing program and operational scale-up in the Gaza Strip, as well as managing and supporting the Gaza team and planning.
The successful applicant will have:
- Relevant, recent and substantial professional experience in the successful management of projects, budgets, resources and staff, preferably in a conflict, complex health-related context, including experience at a senior management level
- Substantial , demonstrable experience at senior management level in a humanitarian context
- Experience of living in the oPt or in the Middle East is essential
- Experience in programme management, design, risk assessment and security management
- Experience working in voluntary sector or INGOs and in supporting the development of local organisations
- Senior management skills to undertake a complex management role in an international organisation
- Excellent staff management, communication and inter-personal skills
- Ability to manage and support complex projects and a multidisciplinary project team, often requiring a high degree of independent judgement and negotiating skills.
- Fluent spoken and written Arabic
- Clear written /verbal communication skills in both English and
- Strong decision-making skills and ability to translate programmatic priorities into operational delivery
- Fluent written and spoken English
- Excellent IT skills, including experience of using Microsoft Office software
Knowledge
- Keen understanding of the political context and development and humanitarian issues in Palestine
- Understanding of security protocols in conflict and insecure environments
- Understanding of protection, safeguarding and wellbeing approaches with staff and communities

We will recruit from the UK but you must be able to live and work in Egypt. This is a 6 month fixed term contract
