Job Summary

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced research administrator to support research proposals and oversee awards and transactions related to contract and grant management. The work includes maintaining contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies and working on proposals and awards of diverse scope where analysis of data requires thorough understanding of complex regulations. Includes managing several awards, each with different requirements, regulations, and deadlines. Completes and approves transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official. Guides less experienced staff. Typically works on complex proposals such as grants / contracts which require task budgets, option years, multiple investigators and multiple sub awards.

Department Description

The Science & Health Education Partnership (SEP) , housed in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, leads a suite of programs supporting science teaching and learning in SF public schools and in the community. This Finance Manager position includes pre-award, post-award, purchasing, receiving, distribution, accounting support services and all activities related to SEP.  This position is responsible for SEP fiscal management, office management, administration, and communication.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports
  • Ability to manage significant volume of transactions
  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting
  • Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas
  • Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and/or regulations (e.g., indirect cost, federal cost principles, contract and grant policies, agency guidelines, etc.)
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; ability to respond to change with agility and flexibility to meet the demands of multiple clients and deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
