Job Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Neonatology has an opening for a full-time Finance/Accounting Professional to work at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. Neonatology specializes in caring for premature and sick infants and is driven to provide the best in current and compassionate care. This mission is realized through providing and advocating high-quality, coordinated programs of family-centered patient care, education, and research. 

Working under the direction of the Section Business Manager, the key responsibilities of this position are to provide fiscal support and financial analysis, including accounting, reporting, and transaction processing by Federal, State, University (UCD), CU Medicine, and Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) policies and procedures. This position has responsibility for fiscal oversight and management of funds from all sources through continual monitoring of CU Medicine operating and enrichment funds, Children’s Hospital Colorado operating and restricted funds, grant, agency, and state funds, as well as the UCD Perinatal Research Center (PRC) Auxiliary Service Center. Manage the Section research enterprise by advising principal investigators and other client groups associated with animal and clinical research (basic, applied, translational, and clinical trials). This position will be an integral part of the finance team and will be expected to complete other tasks as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit and reconcile finance reports from the University of Colorado, CU Medicine, and Children’s Hospital Colorado monthly.
  • Proactively resolve any discrepancies identified during the reconciliation process.
  • Accurately identify and allocate expenses and update balance sheets every month.
  • Sumit Journal Entries between section funds as needed.
  • Manage Marketplace orders for the section (purchasing and receiving).
  • Coordinate domestic and international travel arrangements for faculty and guests (visiting professors, etc.) using University Concur.
  • Submit faculty reimbursements (travel and expenses) in Concur.
  • Utilize CU Medicine Cor360 to process reimbursements and submit invoices.
  • Manage multiple spreadsheets across various funding streams to document section finances every month accurately.
  • Submit monthly reports for Medical Director contracts. Reconcile revenue and follow up with appropriate entities on missing payments.
  • Support administrative team members with finance-related queries.
  • Work with the Section of Neonatology’s Business Manager and Research Service Center Director to manage research billing, maintain updated rates, review invoices, and distribute summaries to research faculty.
  • Manage service center revenue projections and provide financial reports.
  • In conjunction with the Business Manager, provide section fund and post-award grant accounting. This includes updating monthly balance projection sheets for endowment/chair funds, internal funding sources, faculty incentive funds, startup funds, and extramural grant funding. Duties include meeting with PIs to review grant spending, submitting JEs to move funds, communicating reporting deadlines and budget end dates to PIs, and other actions as needed.

Work Location:

Hybrid —This role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance or Accounting, Health Administration, or a closely related field.
  • One (1) year of experience working in a business support role focusing on finance and accounting/fiscal responsibility.

Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with CU, CU Medicine, and CHCO fiscal and grant administration policies and procedures.
  • Experience managing a large volume of financial data.
  • Experience with campus systems, including m-Fin, PeopleSoft Finance System, Cognos, Marketplace, Concur Expense Management, InfoEd, MyBI, CLX, etc.
  • Experience with financial database development.
  • Experience with grant management.

  • Ability to evaluate, analyze, and interpret vast amounts of data, recommend solutions, and implement the preferred course of action. 
  • Ability to effectively source, allocate, and control funds from various internal and external sources.

  • Ability to establish work priorities, plan, organize, implement, and coordinate financial and administrative activities. 
  • Ability to delegate assignments as appropriate and oversee to ensure completion of activities. 
  • Ability to understand complex information systems and guide other personnel about their use.
  • Ability to take direction and use independent judgment to identify and address problems proactively.
  • Proficiency in budget planning, preparation, and forecasting.
  • Excellent computer skills, including generating reports and manipulating large amounts of data. Demonstrated ability to use and learn various computer/web-based applications and programs and embrace the use of new technologies in performing routine and non-routine tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, researchers, and administrative staff.
  • Ability to maintain high confidentiality, professionalism, and composure under pressure.
  • Must be fiscally responsible to ensure funds are managed by all pertinent rules and policies (Federal and non-federal granting agencies, State, University, School of Medicine, University Physicians, inc.,
  • CU Foundation, Department of Pediatrics, etc.).
  • This position requires significant attention to detail, computer sophistication, and general database knowledge.
  • Ability to prepare and present analytical assessments and reports and to communicate professionally and effectively.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Excel, including proficiency with pivot tables, conditional formatting, and formulas.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as

$46,672 to $59,366.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
