Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Economic Recovery Specialist – Self Employment

About the Job

This role involves supporting the quality of implementation by strengthening the capacities of Micro and Small Business owners to manage their business and accounting, forecast finances, and identify the most strategic investments that would lead to a high return on investment in terms of productivity and associated profit margins in Kahramanmaraş.

Geographic scope: Kahramanmaraş Field Office

This role has a field focus in Kahramanmaraş province in the effective implementation of economic recovery activities responsible for full compliance with DRC procedures and guidelines within the country. The role contributes to the development of economic recovery strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks.

Location: Kahramanmaraş

Main responsibilities

General Programming & operations (40%)

  • Under direct supervision of economic recovery manager, regularly inform and coordinate with the team leader and self-employment officer for the planning and implementation of business management capacity training sessions.
  • Participate in the grant selection committee.
  • Assure necessary documentation for the activity in line with relevant SOPs.
  • Under the guidance of the economic recovery Manager, explore alternative market opportunities for food production and processing of dairy and livestock products.
  • Analyze at all times the changing needs amongst refugee groups to ensure that DRC provides relevant support
  • Identify, analyze, and report new approaches for business skills training and adapt the curriculum in accordance with the findings.
  • Identify the need for assessments as well as focus group discussions with beneficiaries.
  • Follow up with micro business grantees and provide the required support to enhance their business performance.
  • Participate in facilitating and coordinating activities within the team and with other DRC’s departments.
  • Support the Ec-Rec coordinator with up-to-date information about the market changes and follow-up on monitoring visits with the donor.
  • Drafting weekly activity reports and submitting it to the EcRec manager on a weekly basis

Technical support (30%)

  • Provide technical guidance to the team regarding agriculture and livestock-related activities.
  • Provide up-to-date market changes to inform the Ec-Rec team of the needs and available services in the market.
  • Contribute and participate in drafting the market analysis reports.
  • Review the training materials, coaching templates, and business improvement plan forms.

Coordination (20%)

  • Proactively seek, assess, and report new opportunities to deliver higher quality as far as BDS activities are concerned.
  • Promote and ensure at all times a pragmatic and effective dialogue as well as networking with local institutions and authorities, private Institutes, workshops, national and international NGOs, etc. where relevant and needed.
  • Liaise and coordinate with relevant partners/service providers/implementing partners for the provision of skills trainings and day-to day activity implementation.
  • Support Economic Recovery Manager in liaising and coordination with relevant stakeholders for organization of outreach activities such as business networking events, fairs, private sector engagement initiatives.

Monitoring & Evaluation (5%)

  • Provide regular reporting on indicators, achievements and challenges related to the project,
  • Facilitate the qualitative and quantitative monitoring of the project through team meetings, activity monitoring, post-assistance visits and focus groups, regular reporting, and any other monitoring tools.
  • Participate in the internal Evaluation of the program.

Representation (5%)

  • If requested by the Economic Recovery Coordinator, represent DRC in Food Security and Livelihoods groups meetings.

About you

To be successful in this role, you must have University degree in economics, business administration, or social sciences.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required experience and competencies

Minimum requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working for an INGO in the economic recovery/livelihood sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in food engineering, agricultural engineering, economics, business administration, marketing or any other relevant discipline.
  • Strong experience in private business sector: business administration, marketing, supply chain, commerce.
  • Experience with working with partners
  • Proven Experience in providing business management and capacity-building training
  • Experience engaging with the private sector in livestock and agriculture sectors.
  • Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Turkish Nationality
  • Fluency in Arabic Turkish and English

Preferred Qualification and Experiences

Preferred Qualification:

  • Project Management (including budget/contract management)
  • Project monitoring (including reporting and data management)

Preferred Experiences:

  • Understanding the rights and protection issues of refugees, children, and women – experience working with Syrian refugees is an advantage
  • Experience working in the field (preferably experience from Southern Turkey)
  • An understanding of humanitarian/civil society issues in Turkey and the region

We offer

Contract length: 10 Months (renewable dependent on both funding and performance)

Employment Band: G- non-Manager

Designation of Duty Station: Kahramanmaraş

Start date: 01.04.2024

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Nationals.
