Adjunct Lecturer/Co-Instructor of Communication – Methodological Fundamentals of Big Data in Communication

The Master of Communication Management (MCG) program at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, University of Southern California seeks a qualified Adjunct Lecturer/Co-Instructor to complement the expertise of our full-time faculty during the Fall 2024 semester. This position involves co-teaching CMGT 564: Methodological Fundamentals of Big Data in Communication (focusing on analytics in social media platforms and games). Co-teaching will be with a current MCG faculty.

Candidates must have at least a Master’s (preferably a Doctoral degree) in Communication, Media, Business, Management, Organization, Psychology, Statistics or related fields, plus substantial industry experience. Work experience in research, analytics and data science functions in social media, games, entertainment, content and/or consumer facing sectors such as Meta, Google, Apple, Amazon, Tencent, Roblox is highly desired; experience must involve audience research, analytics, visualization, as well as how insights generation may be programmed and automated and transformed into enterprise value. Teaching experience in research, statistics, analytics, and other fields of applied communication is highly desired.

Minimum Qualifications :

Minimum Education: Master’s degree in Communication, Media, Business, Management, Organization, Psychology, Statistics, or related fields.

Minimum Experience: 10 years of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications :

Preferred Education: Doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) in Communication, Media, Business, Management, Organization, Psychology, Statistics, or related fields.

Preferred Experience. Teaching experience in research, statistics, analytics, and other fields of applied communication. Demonstrated ability to coach and help students achieve their academic and professional goals. Work experience in research and data science functions in social media, games, entertainment, content and/or consumer facing sectors such as Meta, Google, Apple, Amazon, Tencent, Roblox is highly desired; experience must involve audience research, analytics, visualization, as well as how insights generation may be programmed and automated and transformed into enterprise value.

The hourly range for this position is $$36.37 – $45.46. USC reserves the “Adjunct” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC, who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career elsewhere. Adjunct faculty typically teach only one course per year, but in exceptional cases, may teach one course per semester, if approved by the dean.
