Job Description
Steward Green is looking for a strategic and grounded Vice President of Ecological Stewardship to help direct the company to unprecedented heights. This is a very hands-on supervisory role, which manages SG staff and works closely with a suite of clients to guide and implement both ecological restoration programs and nature-based solutions.

This position requires a conservation professional with extensive knowledge of restoration practices and ecological monitoring who also has experience collaborating with a variety partners, clients and stakeholders. For many of the ecological restoration and monitoring programs, the position holder develops, oversees, and installs the programs for Steward Green. Native pollinator meadow creations, regeneration programs and corporate campus conservation planning & management are common projects for this position to oversee. Currently, this role also coordinates all the natural land stewardship efforts on a large corporate campus in Pennington, NJ. Field work is year-round and takes place in a variety of conditions. Meadow and vegetative monitoring and deer browse impact studies are commonplace for this position to perform, analyze and report on.

Refined and assertive communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to guide our precious clients through design, decision-making, and implementation of various projects. Clients include residential, non-profit, government and corporate. For all, potential and contracted, projects this position oversees all steps from the ground up; this includes project design, proposal writing, client communication, scheduling, staff management, procurement of equipment and materials, and maintaining client expectations. The position is responsible for optimizing the timing of phased projects to reduce temporary negative impact on local ecology and oversee the follow up monitoring and maintenance to ensure long-term success.

Position is based in the field with both in-office and remote working options. Some work travel is required, both in and out of New Jersey, day trips through multi-night stays can be required. Depending on the individual, professional speaking engagements may have a role for the successful candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, oversee and implement operations strategy, including day-to-day company operations, management of field staff, partners, and subcontractors
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all phases of projects and operations
  • Host regular project/operations meetings
  • Represent Steward Green at local and national events/gatherings
  • Tackle unforeseen issues and troubleshooting
  • Keep up to date with new developments in the field of conservation

Skills and Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Proven track record of designing and implementing successful restoration initiatives
  • Data entry and documentation
  • Proven team leader, with strong people and time management practices
  • Project and budget management skills
  • Problem solver with an attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • GIS software programs for field work (ESRI preferred)
  • Preferred experience with green infrastructure/stormwater BMPs
  • Strong organizational skills/ ability to multi-task and have flexible work schedules
  • Strong knowledge of native flora and fauna is preferred
  • Willingness to travel

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in business, natural resource management, ecology or related field is preferred yet experience to commensurate is more preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management, ecology or related field
  • 5-10 years supervisory experience
