The Department for Business & Trade (DBT) is an international economic government department securing UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment and championing free trade. This Internship role will offer the selected candidate the opportunity to learn and gain excellent experience, within a multinational/multicultural environment, and within the Department for Business and Trade, at the British Embassy in Madrid. Our Intern will work mainly in a supporting role with many opportunities to work in areas such as event management, relationship building with UK and Spanish companies, business reporting and social media communications. Fluency at C1 level in English and Spanish (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages*).

Currently studying at a Spanish University where the student will remain in the same course or field of study, for the entire duration of the internship period.

This is an internship position for curricular or extra-curricular credits as part of a student´s current university degree. This is a part-time internship offer of 6 months, with the possibility of renewal. The working hours are 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday between the hours of 09:00am and 14.00pm.
The Spain network has its own Flexible Working Policy. Individual details must be agreed between the employee and their Line Manager; however it is expected that the Intern will be physically present at the office on a daily basis, during the initial training/probation period. |
The successful candidate is subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance.
The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Spanish Social Security Scheme and will therefore not be entitled to any gratuity from the Embassy based on gross annual salary.
The Embassy is a Diplomatic Mission with tax exempt status and does not collect taxes for other States. Employees are fully responsible for payment of income tax at the legally required rate. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Spain are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Spanish employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Spain and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in this country.
Only applications of students enrolled in approved Universities in Spain will be accepted for now. Please be advised that it is also a requirement that interns are to remain in the same course or field of study at a Spanish university for the entire duration of the internship period.
