The Australia-Pacific Partnerships Platform (The Partnerships Platform) is looking for motivated and skilled professionals who are keen to make a difference. We seek passionate staff who work collaboratively to deliver ideas and advice that can help our Pacific Island Country partners meet their governance and stability goals. The Partnerships Platform is seeking an experienced and motivated Infrastructure Adviser with a proven track record of working across governments to improve collaboration across departments and be able to support the Department of Infrastructure Development counterparts in working effectively with all stakeholders. 

The Adviser will work across Government of Nauru to improve collaboration across departments and will support Department of Infrastructure Development counterparts to work effectively with all stakeholders. They will have a role in supporting the Government of Nauru to implement Australian aid funded projects and work with the Australian High Commission. The Infrastructure Adviser role reports directly to the Secretary for Infrastructure and has a strong focus on supporting the Department’s capacity development to work across Government.

The Adviser is expected to allocate approximately 60% of their time to providing support to the Department of Infrastructure Development, 20% to supporting whole of Government of Nauru implementation of priority Australian aid-funded infrastructure; and the remaining 20% to the Australian High Commission. The role will have a capacity development focus for staff within the Department of Infrastructure Development.

The position is an accompanied, 12 months posting with the option to extend for 2 years. A competitive international standard remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate, including housing, and return airfares if required for international candidates.

About the Australia-Pacific Partnerships Platform

The Australia-Pacific Partnerships Platform is an Australian Government initiative funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and managed by DT Global. It provides Pacific Countries with a suite of flexible, fit-for-purpose options that support broad governance and stability development outcomes.

About the Department of Infrastructure Development

For this advisory role, the Partnerships Platform is partnering with the Department of Infrastructure Development, Government of Nauru and Australian High Commission in Nauru.

The Department of Infrastructure Development is responsible for the strategic oversight of Nauru’s infrastructure requirements and activities. The Department is headed by the Secretary for Infrastructure, reporting to the Minister of Infrastructure Development.

Key responsibilities and priorities of the Department include:

  • Coordination of housing and road development.
  • Sea wall construction and capital infrastructure (e.g. schools, hospitals, sports facilities).

Key projects funded with Australian aid include the port redevelopment project, the airport resurfacing project and the East Micronesia Cable.

The Department of Infrastructure Development provides strategic guidance and coordination of the activities, to ensure Nauru’s strategic priorities are met. The Department’s activities are guided by the Nauru National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) 2019-2030 and the Nauru Integrated Infrastructure Strategic Plan (NIISP).

About You

We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, respect, resilience and adaptability, and a preparedness to work with limited resources in a challenging environment, this includes the ability to successfully build and manage relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will have tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Architecture, Town Planning, Project Management, or related discipline. Experience in Public Sector reform initiatives, including an understanding of public policy and appropriate public sector interventions will be highly valued.

You will be required to demonstrate a strong understanding of, and commitment to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), child protection and the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), anti-corruption and other DFAT safeguarding policies.

Other Information

Applicants (and approved dependents) will need to undergo psychometric and medical screening prior to deployment. Housing, mobilisation, and demobilisation airfares will be provided as part of the overall remuneration package. This position is accompanied, noting that the deployment of dependants will require assessment and approval by DT Global.
