This is an exciting opportunity for someone with knowledge of geodetic reference systems, map
projections and geodetic theory to play a key role processing and verifying a wide range of
geodetic survey data to help our partners build an understanding of the marine environment.
About the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO)
We are a world-leading centre for hydrography, specialising in marine geospatial data to
support safe, secure and thriving oceans. We fulfil the UK government’s Safety of Life at Sea
obligations and are relied upon by defence users, government and global shipping.
The role
You will be a key member of the UKHO Geodesy Team, which sits within the Scientific Analysis
Group; a centre of excellence, responsible for providing advice on matters relating to tides
and geodesy.
You will be responsible for the analysis and processing of geodetic survey data into a range of
databases for onward use in UKHO products and services. You will also be responsible for
updating the geodetic databases and data management processes to meet the requirements of the
UKHO, Royal Navy and other partners.
What we are looking for
We are looking for candidates who enjoy working as part of a small, specialist team, but who
are keen to share their specialist knowledge and experience across the business and with
internal and external stakeholders and customers.
The ability and confidence to build effective working relationships and communicate with a
broad range of audiences will be important in the role.
You will need to demonstrate your technical expertise within the geodesy science domain, and
how you apply this to the development and continual improvement of processes, technologies and
tools, and the stewardship of geodetic data.
A knowledge of geodetic reference systems, map projections and geodetic theory is equally
important.
In return
UKHO is a great place in which to explore your career potential. While our projects are
career-defining, the work/life balance that we can offer you is equally exceptional. From
flexitime, flexible working, an award-winning office environment and a generous annual leave
allowance of 34.5 days including public holidays, the opportunities open to you here are hard
to beat.
