POSiTION PURPOSE
The Manager: Stakeholder and Media Communications is a communications generalist who is responsible for the planning and delivery of both internal and external (public relations) communications activity at The Centre.
A key part of the role is to develop and update The Centre’s communications strategy to ensure it is aligned to and supports the outcomes and focus areas of The Centre’s Strategic Plan and advocacy campaigns.
The role is responsible for building awareness of what The Centre for Volunteering offers various stakeholders through print, TV, radio and social media, website, events, etc and managing all media liaison to build The Centre’s profile and promote best practice volunteer management and volunteering across NSW.
The role works in close collaboration with the Communications and Marketing Coordinator, to ensure content across social media channels and The Centre’s website is consistent and aligned to all plans, campaigns and strategic content.
The Manager: Stakeholder and Media Communications will work closely with staff as a trusted adviser and share their expertise and understanding of the media, communications strategy and planning, and stakeholder relations, to protect, promote and enhance a positive brand for volunteering and The Centre.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and deliver desired communications strategy each year, and ensure it is aligned to the needs and outcomes of The Centre and it’s key strategic directions;
- Develop communications plans for key projects, campaigns, advocacy goals and events of The Centre. This includes, but is not limited to, The NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards, National Volunteer Week, Volunteering NSW State Conference, The State of Volunteering Report, member communications, training and professional development opportunities;
- Develop and deliver content including written material, photography and videography, with the support of the Communications and Marketing and external resources when available;
- Media liaison and writing media releases, speeches, briefing notes, website content and member and stakeholder communications;
- Develop and regularly update Key Message documents and issues management plans;
- Manage some key stakeholder relationships to support the CEO, and communications plans and strategies;
- Work with senior staff to ensure all agreed priorities and projects are supported through effective communications plans and adhere to agreed deadlines;
- Manage external contractors and vendors to support the communications functions;
- Provide key data and metrics to support The Centre’s reporting requirements;
- Ensure all activities conform to relevant government regulations, and The Centre’s policies, standards and ethics; and
- Collaborate with all staff as needed to ensure all work is completed safely, sustainably, efficiently, and to a high standard.
ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Manager: Stakeholder and Media Communications will work collaboratively with all staff and volunteers across the organisation. They will work particularly closely with the Director: Policy, Advocacy, and Research, CEO, Deputy CEO, Director: Events and Capacity Building and the Communications and Marketing Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Essential: Undergraduate Qualification – Communications, humanities or related discipline
- Desirable: Graduate or higher qualifications in marketing/communications
SKILLS, QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Excellent writing skills particularly experience in writing for media or associated material;
- Experience in a communications, media or public relations role; and
- Excellent organisation and interpersonal skills.
Desirable
- Demonstrated knowledge of media and government;
- Previous experience working with not-for-profit and/or volunteer-involving organisations;
- Previous experience managing staff, and communications strategy and planning; and
- Website content management, in particular on the Wordpress platform.
