ERM is hiring a Field Biologist to perform wetland delineations, biological surveys, nesting bird surveys and construction monitoring based from Oakland/San Francisco/Walnut Creek, CA. This role is a temporary contract position. Successful candidates must be flexible and responsive to a challenging and changing work environment where schedules, site locations, and tasks fluctuate according to the needs of the project. The role of a field biologist requires technical skills, as well as strong organizational and communication skills. Local candidates preferred. This a full-time (40 hours/week), limited-term role for the duration of 6 months, renewable.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform aquatic resource/wetland delineations and assessments.
- Perform nesting bird surveys.
- Perform biological surveys for special status wildlife and plants.
- Biological monitoring for construction projects
- Electronic data collection.
- Handheld and sub-meter accurate GPS data collection.
- Daily reporting and survey report compilation.
- Potential to help with office/desktop work as needed.
- Other duties as assigned or required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of experience in field biology (wildlife, botany, and/or aquatic resources).
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, etc.).
- Experience with nesting bird and raptor surveys.
- Experience in aquatic resource/wetland delineations.
- Specialized training in OHWM identification and 40-hr USACE wetland delineation are a plus.
- Experience with biological surveys for CA special status species (wildlife and plants), butterfly host-plant surveys, and/or habitat assessments.
- Experience with construction monitoring.
- Familiarity with nesting bird survey protocols and/or general bird identification skills required.
- The ability to identify plants by sight and use dichotomous keys is strongly desired.
- Familiarity with vegetation community mapping, Sensitive Natural Communities, and impact assessments is a plus.
- Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain.
- Working knowledge of sub-meter accuracy GPS technologies and map interpretation skills (e.g., NWI, NHD, USGS, aerial imagery).
- Must have a strong attention to detail in documentation of work.
- Must have strong organizational and communication skills.
- Desire to work in the field for an extended period and maintain a positive attitude.
- Willingness and ability to travel with overnight stays possible.
- Demonstrated independent and effective problem solving and decision-making skills.
- A strong commitment to safety and safety procedures.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.

Pay Transparency:
For the Field Biologist position we anticipate the annual base pay of $71,900 – $80,900, $34.61/hr– $40,99/hr, limited-term, non-exempt. An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/Flexforce employees are NOT bonus eligible).
