Weyerhaeuser is searching for a Harvest Manager to join the Mississippi Louisiana Region within our Southern Timberlands division. The Harvest Manager is based in Hattiesburg, MS and reports directly to the Hattiesburg Wood Flow Manager. The position demands significant travel to and from logging sites, along with extensive fieldwork dedicated to planning and overseeing harvesting operations.

Key Functions

As a Harvest Manager, you will play a pivotal role within the Hattiesburg Team, tasked with contract administration and the implementation of harvesting and transportation strategies to align with planned volumes and market commitments. Responsibilities encompass a spectrum of duties including on-site verification of harvest plans, negotiating harvesting contracts, supervising harvest operations, addressing contract noncompliance and performance issues, and ensuring contractor safety compliance. Additional key functions include merchandizing and optimizing product utilization, maintaining timely system updates, monitoring contract performance, ensuring quality in thinning operations, enforcing environmental compliance, and managing logging road maintenance activities. Your role as Harvest Manager will serve as a cornerstone in facilitating the success of Wood Flow, Marketing, Silviculture, Planning, and Geographic Leaders in achieving their annual plans and objectives.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or related field with at least 5 years of related experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Commitment to, and the ability to exemplify and promote a safe work environment
  • Fundamental negotiation skills
  • Proficiency in determining and applying conversion factors between alternate scales and weights
  • Understanding of quality specifications for raw materials across customer markets and how log characteristics impact delivered raw material and standing timber values
  • Ability to leverage cost, volume, quality, and other supplier data for performance evaluation
  • Knowledge of safety, environmental, labor, and transportation laws and regulations pertaining to harvesting operations
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to thrive in a self-motivated, self-directed work environment where effective time management is crucial
  • Familiarity with total system concepts and demonstrated competence in collaborating across business and organizational boundaries
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software such as Word and Excel, along with various other computer software and applications
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and adeptness in safely operating a vehicle
  • Ability to safely navigate active harvesting sites, which typically involves maneuvering on uneven terrain and being in close proximity to heavy operational equipment

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $57,000 – $100,100 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 5% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours
