The Netherlands Consulate General in Erbil is looking for a service-oriented and an eye on detail individual for the temporary position of Consular Affairs Officer.
The Consular Affairs Officer will primarily have front office tasks and processes visa applications for asylum family reunifications (D-visa/MVV). Additionally, the Consular Affairs Officer provides logistic clerical support at the consular section and conducts other related consular tasks. This is a temporary position until September 2024. Preferred starting date is 1 May 2024.
Tasks
- Consular front office services
- Taking in visa applications for asylum family reunifications (MVV) at the counter and preparing the application files for the back office.
- Handing over of issued MVV, passports and documents at the counter.
- Preparing administration of and monitoring DNA examinations.
- Printing of visa.
Furthermore, the following tasks will be performed on a replacement basis:
- Taking in other consular documents, such as applications for travel documents, and consular statements. Assessing the various documents and entering the applications in the various computerized systems.
- Logistic clerical support
- Scheduling appointments for family reunification and handling all email correspondence related to these appointments. Assessing the importance and urgency of incoming email correspondence.
- Maintaining contact with the Consular Service Organisation (CSO) and the Immigration and Naturalization Service in the Netherlands (IND) on family reunification files.
- Keeping consular records by creating, organising, storing, weeding and maintaining physical files and documents.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Knowledge and skill requirements
- Skills in performing front office tasks.
- Advanced knowledge of the English language.
- Advanced knowledge of the Kurdish and Arabic language (orally and written) sufficient for document checks and independent contact with clients/applicants.
- Knowledge of the Dutch language is an advantage.
- Knowledge of different Kurdish dialects such Sorani, Badini and Kurmanji is an advantage.
- Knowledge or skills to obtain knowledge about internal clerical procedures, work instructions and formal rules and protocols of/within the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Knowledge of general principles of policy concerning migration and consular affairs.
- Skills in creating and keeping files.
- Social and communicational skills.
- Problem solving skills to assist colleagues with various consular or administrative tasks.
- High regard for integrity and confidentiality in dealing with sensitive matters.

Level of education / additional training and knowledge
- Minimum secondary vocational level, preferably university level.
- Experience in consular work is (strongly) preferred.

Important
