Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Secretary-General is responsible for the investment of the assets of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Secretary-General has delegated this responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF (RSG). The RSG heads the Office of Investment Management (OIM), which manages approximately $80+ billion multi-asset class, global investment portfolio, about 80% of which is actively managed in-house. Asset classes under management comprise global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber and commodities. OIM’s staff are all based in New York but come from over 30 countries. For more information please visit OIM’s website at https://oim.unjspf.org/. This internship position is located in the Real Assets Team within the Office of Investment Management of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund. Real Assets Team includes Real Estate, Infrastructure, Timber and Agriculture, within the Private Markets Section of the OIM. The incumbent reports to the Senior Investment Officer. The incumbent can work full time or part time, in-person at OIM’s office in New York or remotely and can be adjusted based on the request of the successful candidate. With appropriate guidance, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks: 1. Conducts careful and thorough investment research: a) Conduct comprehensive market research and analysis to identify investment trends within real assets industry. b) Assist in creating industry reports, market outlooks to support investment strategies and decision-making process. 2. Assist the Real Assets Team in preparing specific investment recommendations: a) Participate in due diligence processes, including reviewing industry research and assessing risk factors. b) Prepare investment memos, presentations, and other documentation for internal review and decision-making. c) Collaborate with Investment Officers and other team members on various projects and initiatives. d) Support portfolio management activities, such as monitoring performance and data analytics.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants who have graduated as defined in (a) or (b) above, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and MS Teams. Good knowledge of finance is required. Strong data analytics and research skills are desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
