Annual Giving
in its Arlington, VA
office (hybrid schedule). 

 

The Manager of Annual Giving works with the
Senior Director of Philanthropy to strengthen NCOA’s individual
giving program to advance NCOA’s mission and grow unrestricted
revenue. The Manager of Annual Giving is responsible for the
development and management of annual giving strategies and
campaigns for individuals including seasonal and monthly campaigns,
social and paid media, email marketing, donor acquisition, and
donor retention and advancement of multi-year commitments.
Essential to this role is the development of donor stewardship
initiatives including but not limited to a sustaining monthly
giving program and bringing to the table new ideas for donor
prospecting and marketing.

 

Positions at this level typically report to a senior director
and require advanced knowledge and experience as well as management
capabilities. Incumbents are required to make independent
judgements within their scope of work and require minimal
oversight.  Incumbents generally have eight or more years of
experience in their discipline and a bachelor’s degree or the
equivalent, as well as substantive experience at this level. 
Graduate level degrees may be considered in lieu of experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position is highly collaborative, requires keen
    project management skills, and works to improve key performance
    metrics with Advancement Team members to increase engagement and
    donor conversion through multiple channels, e.g., digital
    platforms, email marketing strategies, social and paid media
    strategies, and data-driven donor segmentation.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Director of Philanthropy, set
    the tone and direction of overall individual giving campaigns.
  • Build on lessons learned and industry best practices to design
    and lead individual giving strategies that achieve aggressive donor
    engagement, conversion, retention, and revenue goals.
  • Create and lead all individual giving campaigns—strengthening
    existing year-end and spring initiatives, and developing smaller,
    monthly efforts—that facilitate 12-months of giving opportunities
    to donors and prospects.
  • Create and lead strategies and programs that drive cultivation,
    stewardship, relationship management, and annual gift
    upgrades.
  • Develop and manage a donor-informed monthly giving
    program.
  • Synthesize internal and external data to create donor profiles
    that drive acquisition through direct mail and digital
    channels.
  • Develop messaging and edit content working in tandem with the
    Marcomm team’s brand building efforts and define cohesive message
    testing strategies to continually improve donor communications in a
    methodological manner.
  • Develop and drive digital marketing strategies in collaboration
    with Advancement’s Digital & Marcomm teams to engage, convert,
    and retain individual donors and prospects.
  • Manage consumer-facing planned giving tools, identify prospects
    for estate planning education, and facilitate digital/print
    outreach.
  • Collaborate with Administrative staff on in-house donor
    mailings and other fundraising campaigns and donor-stewardship
    requirements.
  • Achieve performance measures/accountabilities including but not
    limited to:
    • Increase annual giving revenue and active donor file, including
      donor acquisition and retention (specific targets to be developed
      annually)
    • Support the development of a major gift program for NCOA
      (shared with the Senior Director of Philanthropy and the CDMO)
    • Help achieve national leadership gift goals for the annual fund
      campaign (targets to be determined)
  • Other responsibilities as required.

 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of individual giving
    experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful digital fundraising
    experience.
  • Strong writing, message development, and project management
    experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills necessary,
    including the ability to articulate the case for support so
    individuals “buy into” NCOA’s vision/mission/goals.
  • Interest in major gift and/or related engagement
    preferred.
  • Familiarity/knowledge of tax laws that impact charitable
    giving, personal assets, and estates.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work in a
    collaborative team environment a must.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office, Salesforce, Blackbaud,
    and other business-related presentation software.
  • Experience in a national non-profit environment highly
    preferred.
