The Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District (Ag + Open Space) permanently protects the diverse agricultural, natural resource, and scenic open space lands of Sonoma County for future generations. We are currently recruiting for one full-time Stewardship Technician to monitor and document conditions on Ag + Open Space’s conservation easements. This position is assigned to Ag + Open Space’s Stewardship Program. This position is eligible for up to 60% remote work.

Duties

The Stewardship Technician will be part of a dynamic team that stewards Ag + Open Space’s conservation easements and protected lands, and will round out our team that monitors Ag + Open Space’s 240+ conservation easements. This position, under direction from Ag + Open Space’s Stewardship Supervisor, will actively facilitate communication and relationship building with easement landowners, schedule visits and conduct monitoring visits to easement properties, photograph property conditions and collect data in the field, produce maps in GIS reflecting collected data, and compile monitoring reports with these data. Additionally, this position will assist in maintaining Ag + Open Space’s monitoring database, undertake discrete fee land management projects, and support Stewardship staff in conducting research and developing recommendations for action on a variety of Stewardship-related issues.

Requirements

Any combination of education and work experience that would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed herein. Normally, this would include an Associate’s degree, or equivalent, with coursework in planning, geography, GIS, environmental studies, natural resource management, landscape architecture, or other related fields, and some experience in open space, parks, environmental protection, land use planning, or other related fields that included experience in drafting and the preparation of reports. Coursework or experience with GIS and experience working with volunteers are highly desirable.
