Who we are?
The British Embassy in Dublin is part of a world-wide network, representing the UK’s political, economic and consular interests overseas. The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has overall responsibility for promoting UK trade across the world and attracting foreign investment to the UK. The DBT team in Ireland is now seeking to recruit a Senior Trade Advisor to pro-actively lead on identifying high value export opportunities in the Irish market for UK businesses.
Main purpose of job:
The successful candidate will report to the Head of Trade and deliver on ambitious sector export plans for the UK, lead to sectoral campaigns, analyse the market for export opportunities and deliver on those through buyer and account management.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Work with the Head of Trade to design and deliver sectoral campaigns to increase exports from UK building longer term export pipelines.
- Lead on pro-actively identifying and account managing key buyers in Ireland in relevant sectors and promote and deliver on sourcing from the UK.
- Design and deliver inward missions and export programmes for UK companies by organising recruitment drives, preparing and delivering presentations, engaging in one on one company advice sessions and executing account management plans as required.
- Collaborate with DBT network in UK and other agencies in building and delivering export support programmes that connects UK companies with market opportunities.
- Prepare timely and topical sector briefings and reports, insight analysis and company specific reports as required.
- Lead on account management of higher value UK companies that are exporting to, setting up or expanding into Ireland.
- Actively support UK companies seeking to set up in Ireland by providing expert advice, making referrals and providing aftercare as needed.
- Achieve personal and team performance metrics and ensure prompt reporting on KPIs.
- Proactively identify future market access issues in key sectors and assist with removing barriers.
- Contribute to the wider work of the British Embassy in Dublin through corporate activities such as official visits, Embassy wide events and crisis work.

Our Ideal Candidate Shows:
- Fluency in both oral and written English (minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
- Minimum of three years of business development and/or account management experience, with a focus on international trade promotion to generating business leads and with proven success in converting these to business wins;
- Minimum of three years relationship management and stakeholder engagement experience working with a range of businesses, Government and agency partners to help businesses succeed;
- Detailed understanding and knowledge of the Irish and UK economies, opportunities and challenges with the view to increase trade between the UK and Ireland;
- Strong analytical and research skills to process complex information at pace; including the ability to identify trends based on your own and 3rd party research and produce concise reports for internal and external audiences;
- Strong organisational skills and experience leading on projects and campaign work; including events and trade fair participation and overarching sector activities;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and positive and flexible approach to teamwork;
- A self-starter, able to work independently and show initiative for work area and sector to contribute to team KPIs and goals;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills both written and oral and experience in presenting to senior stakeholders and audiences in Government and business.

- Track record of delivery in trade context assisting companies export and grow internationally;
- Strong professional network of established contacts in key opportunity sectors in Ireland;
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience in an industry sector preferably Life sciences/MedTech.

The successful candidate will be subject to a six-month probationary period and will be employed on a fixed-term contract basis for 24 months with the possibility of renewal. The appointment is subject to satisfactory reference and security checks.
All L&D required on FCDO/UK government standards and systems will be provided. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Ireland are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Irish employment law.
