Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a mid to senior level on-call Botanist to join our Environmental Services Practice working within Northern California, to provide as-needed biological support over multiple projects and programs. This position may include writing reports, collecting biological data, surveys, habitat assessments and environmental compliance. The position is to be based out of our Sacramento, Roseville, Nevada City, Chico, Redding, San Francisco, Walnut Creek, San Jose, or Fresno offices.
Your Key Responsibilities
As an on-call Botanist, you may work in highly variable terrain, environments, and locations.
This position is primarily field based but can include desktop work depending on interest and experience. You will perform as-needed botanical support.
Task duties include:
- Assist and/or lead field work tasks, as needed, primarily for floristic inventories, vegetation community sampling and mapping, and potentially for wetland delineations and compliance monitoring.
- Communicating with your team, team leads, project manager and potentially construction crews, clients, or other stakeholders.
- Preparing daily monitoring and/or field reports.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Knowledge of California ecosystems and floristics, and experience with the Jepson Manual.
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- Should be familiar with review and analysis of scientific data, maps, and drawings.
- Provide support in delivering high quality work products to multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Strong skills as a self-starter
- Lead or assist in field work tasks as needed, primarily for floristic surveys and vegetation mapping and sampling, including experience with the Manual of California Vegetation.
- Able to build strong relationships with clients while in the field and communicating.
- Participation in team lead efforts as well as independent field work.
- Strong sense of safety and ability to participate in, uphold and enforce Stantec’s strong safety programs.
- Good driving record and a valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred but not required:
- 5-9 years of field experience
- Wetland delineation experience
- Experience in driving ATVs
- CPR/Wilderness First Aid Certification
Education and Experience
- Minimum of a BA/BS degree in Botany, Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs

Salary Range(s):
- SF Area $41.30/CA Other Areas $36.06PH – SF Area $59.90/CA Other Areas $52.31PH Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
