Title of Position: Realty Specialist Intern
Position Details
Stewards Individual Placements (Stewards) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. Stewards in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management are seeking an intern who will assist the Realty Team in the Cedar City Field Office (CCFO) by identifying and addressing monitoring backlogs, assisting in the process of renewable energy projects (solar, wind, and geothermal), working on right-of-way (ROW) renewals, and gain an understanding of the Bureau of Land Management process. The intern will become familiar with all aspects of National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) which will allow them to become familiar with all the opportunities and careers within the CCFO.
Position Responsibilities will include:
- Identifying and addressing monitoring backlogs.
- Assist in the processing of renewable energy projects.
- Assist Field Office Realty Specialists in the processing of ROW renewals.
- Work with supervisor to learn how to run reports in MLRS to see what compliance work is due
- Learn how to correctly write a legal land description
- Learn correct procedure for and then conduct compliance exams using legal land description, photos, GPS and field notes
- Work with supervisor and GIS Specialist to learn proper procedure for downloading updated shapefiles and preparing them for upload
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must currently be enrolled in college or university
- Valid US Drivers License with insurable driving record of at least 3 years
- The ability to work independently and follow directions.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to use a computer.
- Applicants must pass criminal background checks for both DOI and AmeriCorps eligibility
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must be a US Citizen or legal permanent resident
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current college path in any Environmental Science, Business Management, Public Administration, Range Management, Outdoor Recreation, or Natural Resources.
- Ability to read and navigate to remote areas by using a map and other navigational equipment.
- Ability to drive a 4×4 vehicle and safely navigate dirt roads and rough terrain.
