Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the internship position encompass the following aspects of Ethics Office’s work on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Sexual Harassment (PSEAH). These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: • Assist in the research and drafting of policy documents and guidance (Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and the Sexual Harassment policies). • Coordinate document review processes by collecting and consolidating comments and incorporating feedback from different departments. • Assist in the development and/or review of training, informational or awareness raising materials. • Assist in monitoring and follow-up of UNRWA’s PSEAH Action Plan, including assisting with coordination with departments on PSEAH activities • Assist in conducting relevant research and fact-finding in relation to issues of concern. • Assist in the coordination of stakeholder meetings and in taking accurate minutes and follow up actions. • Assist in updating and organizing the PSEA Sharepoint page, Ethics Sharepoint page, and other electronic documents. • Provide debriefing and hand-over notes to Sexual Misconduct Task Force Coordinator at the end of the internship and • Perform other duties as appropriate.
Qualifications/special skills
Masters Degree or equivalent in Law, Gender or Women’s Studies, Human Rights, Social Sciences, International Relations, International Development, or a related degree. No working experience is required to apply for the UNRWA Internship Programme. Although prior experience in ethical issues will be an advantage. Have a demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; Demonstrated interest/experience in gender, sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, and human rights Demonstrated ability in legal research and analysis and drafting legal or policy documents Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Demonstrated ability in research, drafting and summarizing reports, documents, and briefing notes Strong interpersonal skills and Excellent communication skills Demonstrated ability in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Design tools and software. Required Competencies: Professionalism Excellent analytical and writing skills in English Management skills including work planning Communication and facilitation skills Ability to work independently Flexibility and adaptability (desirable)
Languages
English and Arabic are the working languages of UNRWA. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
Additional Information
This internship is in the Ethics Office, United Nation Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in HQ Amman with a focus on the Agency’s efforts to prevent and respond to sexual misconduct. The duration is for three months with a possible extension of maximum eleven months, depending on the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of Sexual Misconduct Task Force Coordinator and in coordination with Ethics Office members.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
