About the role:

As part of SANE Australia, The Dax Centre provides artists with lived experience of mental health issues opportunities for creative expression, while fostering social change by expanding the public’s awareness of mental illness, and breaking down stigma through art.

The Manager provides high quality management of The Dax Centre, ensuring that all aspects of the gallery and Dax programs are supportive, welcoming, safe and inclusive.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Planning and co-ordinating the successful and safe delivery of all programming for The Dax Centre including the exhibitions program, education program and other programs as required
  • Managing the team of Dax casual Educators, Volunteers, Lived Experience Advocates, and the Gallery Coordinator
  • Working with the SANE team to manage and deliver online creative groups as part of SANE’s digital Guided Service
  • Working with the Gallery Coordinator to develop, curate and deliver engaging and informative exhibitions to raise the profile of The Dax Centre and progress the mission and purpose of The Dax Centre
  • Ensuring the Cunningham Dax Collection (CDC) of artwork is properly maintained at all times, including the development and delivery of Collection management procedures, such as environmental and pest monitoring
  • Overseeing the exhibitions program including installation and de-installation of exhibitions, ensuring they are well planned, safe and within budget
  • Working with the Gallery Coordinator to grow education program revenue
  • Managing artwork loans and image reproduction licences for image publication
  • Managing The Dax Centre website and digital communication channels, using these platforms to promote exhibitions and events
  • Leading the development and execution of grant proposals and fundraising campaigns in collaboration with the Gallery Coordinator and other team members

About You:

Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Arts, Communications, Marketing or other equivalent educational and professional experience
  • ASIST, MHFA, First Aid and Safe Storytelling are preferred.
  • 2+ years in a similar role
  • Strong administration, project management and information technology skills, with an ability to operate computer systems and software including MS Office, Adobe Photoshop (desirable), InDesign (desirable), online databases and web authoring tools
  • RSA and food handling certificates are preferred but not essential, training can be provided for these certificates if required.

Desirable

  • Some experience or knowledge in sales/business development
  • A passion for mental health and an understanding of how creativity can improve mental health outcomes and empower individuals
  • First Aid certification is an advantage
