The Organisation
The NORTH Foundation works as the fundraising partner for hospitals, research units and health facilities within the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) to raise much needed funds to enable them to continue providing the best patient care and drive research to find solutions to real-world health problems.
An important focus of the role is on raising income for the longest-running research organisation in NSW, the Kolling Institute. Here they bring together a large, talented team of researchers who are investigating the biggest health challenges of our time, from heart and kidney disease to musculoskeletal conditions, chronic pain, and neurodegenerative disorders. Located alongside Royal North Shore Hospital, the Kolling Institute teams incorporate scientific breakthroughs into clinical practice, directly improving patient care and the health of the community.
The Role – Trusts and Foundations Officer
Reporting to a new and experienced Director of Fundraising & Philanthropy, the Trusts and Foundations Officer will take the lead on the identification, development, writing and submission of funding applications to philanthropic trusts and foundations within the NSLHD, with a focus on supporting research for the Kolling Institute.
You will develop long-lasting relationships with potential supporters and nurture existing relationships with various funders through top-tier stewardship practices. With exceptional writing skills, you will take the Trusts & Foundations income stream to the next level through creating high quality, engaging submissions.
The position will play a crucial role within the NORTH Foundation’s Philanthropy team and is responsible for collaborating with researchers and clinicians within the NSLHD, as well as key decision makers within grant bodies, to increase philanthropic giving and further grow donor support.
Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with researchers and clinicians to understand funding needs.
- Write and submit high quality, compelling applications.
- Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with philanthropic partners to ensure they are engaged and connected to the Foundation.
- Develop a Trusts and Foundations evaluation framework.
- Report on grants & submissions activity, acquittals and relevant stewardship.
- Establish a strong and evolving pipeline and calendar of funding and grant leads.
- Develop and promote Trust and Foundation engagement strategies that align with fundraising priorities.
- Attend Kolling Institute meetings and events to collaborate with healthcare staff and clinicians.
Your Skills & Attributes
- Demonstrated experience in proposal development, submission and grant writing.
- Excellent written communication skills with ability to translate scientific language for a variety of lay audiences.
- Confidence interacting with a diverse group of people (trustees, foundation managers, corporate foundations, major donors, researchers and executive level internal stakeholders).
- High attention to detail and the ability to deliver quality work to sometimes tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve income targets from successful submissions and relationships.
- Excellent administration skills and confidence utilising CRM systems for data reporting and recording purposes.
