Kalwun Development Corporation Ltd is an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisation currently seeking to fill the following vacancy within our Child, Youth and Family Support Services division. The Kalwun Child, Youth and Family Support Services division administers the Family Wellbeing Service, Family Participation Program, Early Learning Program and the Kinship and Foster Care programs within the South East Qld region. 

About the Role

The Aboriginal Family Led Decision Making (AFLDM) program is based on traditional family values where the responsibility for bringing up children is shared by parents together with extended family and community and guided by the wisdom and experience of elders. The role will be responsible for providing guidance, instruction and leadership to inspire the Kalwun FPP (Family Participation Program) team to perform at their optimum, and also plays a vital role in the family led decision making process, supporting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children and their families. This is a full time position at our new Beaudesert office, however training will take place in the Burleigh office, and some travel to Burleigh/Coomera will be required.

Position Duties

  • Leads and supervises a team of FPP workers in the delivery of collaborative practices when dealing with child protection and the Department of Child Safety
  • Ensures that the FPP services delivered, comply with legislation, delegations, policies, procedures and quality standards.
  • Monitor statistics recording and reports, of all members of the FPP team members, and compile the quarterly report in accordance, with reporting guidelines with the Program Manager.
  • Conduct random audits and regular monitoring of data recording and case work processes, to ensure they are in line with reporting/funding requirements and standards.
  • Convene Family Decision Making meetings with Elders/Respected Persons and any relevant parties identified by the family.
  • To identify and work cooperatively with support services that could be engaged to support AFLDM case plans (e.g. Health services, Family wellbeing etc.).
  • Case planning review and case management – draws insights from assessment and analysis to formulate a meaningful and effective case plan, and reviews case progress and outcomes. Coordinates and leads the planning, review, and management of casework within the Family Participation program and across other agencies and services.
  • Culturally informed practice and safety – understands and applies culturally informed practice that is focused on the child in the context of their family, in a way that considers situations, activities, decisions, and outcomes from the perspective of each stakeholder’s cultural background.
  • Evaluating and delivering program improvements – works with colleagues and key stakeholder to evaluate programs, identify opportunities, develop solutions, and identify and overcome barriers to continuously improve program outcomes.

Essential Selection Criteria

  1. Bachelor of Human Services or similar or 2 years’ experience in a similar role
  2. An awareness and understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities and cultures and the historical and contemporary issues relevant to the needs of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients, and proven capacity to communicate appropriately
  3. A demonstrated thorough knowledge of child protection issues, legislation and requirements and relevant issues specific to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and families
  4. Conflict resolution, preventative planning and time management skills.

  • This position requires the successful applicant to satisfy a national criminal history check and hold a current drivers’ license.
