BACKGROUND
Purpose of Activity/Assignment:
UNGEI is a global partnership for gender equality in and through education. Our mandate is to catalyse and galvanize action locally, nationally, regionally and global for girls’ education and gender equality in education. The UNGEI Secretariat is governed by UNICEF policies of employment. We strive to uphold feminist and anti-racist principles in how we work and offer flexible work arrangements.
This is an exciting time to join UNGEI’s social media and digital team as we develop new public social media and digital campaigns to engage new audiences in topics (including ending gender stereotypes, girls’ and women’s rights, young, feminist leadership, school-related gender-based violence) and our programs, including our flagship Gender at the Centre Initiative, the Feminist Network for Gender Transformative Education and Feminist School.
The social media and digital consultant is a creative, dynamic and exciting role. You will be responsible for creating responsive and strategic content to engage audiences across our platforms, and managing the digital platforms including the website, emails and social media.
Scope of Work:
As a skilled content maker, you will develop engaging video content (eg reels, Tiktoks) for social media, as well as high quality static assets and posts that lean into current trends and conversations online on our issue areas. You will also support on the maintenance of UNGEI’s website and provide support for digital and online events. As an experienced digital specialist, you are familiar with standard tools for email, website and social media management.

Terms of Reference / Key Deliverables:
Deliverable 1: UNGEI organic social media strategy & asset development
-12 x digital media plans with actionable and achievable KPIs in line with the overarching communications strategy for UNGEI 2024. Plan to include content & messaging calendar, audience targeting and innovative platform strategies
-12 x sets of digital assets (to include static, motion & video) developed and posted for the promotion of UNGEI core messaging & campaigns, in line with program and communication needs, including for the following programs/campaigns: Ending Gender stereotypes, Ending School-related gender-based violence, Gender at the Centre Initiative, Feminist School, Feminist Network
-Development and management of up to 200 social media tookits / trello boards / platforms to share content with partners
-5 meeting reports of coordination meetings with social media managers from UNGEI partners, including country-level Feminist Youth Coalitions, to facilitate joint social media communications
-12 x reports on digital performance, audience growth, engagement and reach, along with recommendations for optimization
-Up to 48 UNGEI assets developed and stored online

Deliverable 2: UNGEI Paid media strategy
-2 paid media strategies to engage target audiences in our campaigns
-4 reports on paid media, including recommendations and actions for optimisation

Deliverable 3: UNGEI Website
-30 new web pages, blogs or resources posted on the UNGEI website
-Up to 20 reports, newsletters, briefs or other content developed
-4 quarterly reports delivered on website performance
-Hold 6 check in calls with website development team sharing updates and improvements to site
-Check through and report up to 100 bugs and fixes on Jira the website management platform and to the UNGEI team

Deliverable 4: Online / virtual and in-person events
-Digital management for up to 24 UNGEI or partner led online events, including attending and managing pre-event meetings, developing presentations, scheduling invites, and managing the technical aspects of the call
-Management of up to 24 recording files including editing, file storage and sharing
-Support communications and logistics of up to 5 in-person events, liaising with communications service providers (audio technicians, photographers, others) capturing content for social media and managing digital assets
-Attend up to 48 team meetings to give updates on deliverables
-Attend up to 48 1-1 check in calls with Comms lead to give updates on deliverables

Deliverable 5: Email management
-Drafting and sending up to 24 emails to the UNGEI mailing list
-24 checks and responses to the UNGEI email inbox
-Make up to 20 updates to mailing, user and contact lists in Every Action

Official travel: 4 estimated international trips, 4 days in each destination.
- 1 international travel to Johannesburg, South Africa for Feminist Network event
- 1 international travel to New York, USA for an event organized by UNGEI
- 1 international travel to Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire for African Union Girls’ Education Conference
- 1 international travel to GCI workshop in Abuja, Nigeria (TBC)
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelors in Design, digital / social media, communications, marketing.
Knowledge and experience in gender and/or education is a plus.
Work experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience developing compelling content for social media and managing digital platforms
- At least 3 years of experience in working with international organizations, NGOs, CSOs or brands
Competencies/Knowledge:
- Highly proficient in standard design and digital tools, including Adobe, EveryAction/Mailchimp, Hootsuite, Canva as well as standard administrative tools such as Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Trello
- At least 3 years of experience in supporting the planning and organization of campaigns, virtual events, workshops and meetings
- Excellent attention to detail
- Experience working in social impact campaigns is preferred
- An understanding of issues related to gender equality in education and girls’ education required
Language requirements
- Fluency in English mandatory. Fluency in another UN language is highly desirable.

Financial proposal that will include/ reflect:
- the costs per each deliverable and the total lump-sum for the whole assignment (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference.
- travel costs and daily subsistence allowance, if internationally recruited or travel is required as per TOR
- Any other estimated costs: visa, health insurance, and living costs as applicable.
- Indicate your availability
- Any emergent / unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF
- At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage
- Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.
U.S. Visa information:
With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants. Consultants are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws
The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment.
