JOB PURPOSE

The resilience and smallholder agricultural markets support expert will report to the Deputy Country Director and Head of Programme and work in close collaboration with IACOV Project Coordinator and will supervise field officers in the three districts of Mafeteng, Quthing and Mohale’s hoek. The expert will also work closely with directors, activity managers in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, in Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition and any other relevant line ministries in the government of Lesotho and WFP. The position is based in Maseru and the candidate will be expected to be travelling up to 30% of their time within the country.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Provide specialized technical expertise and advisory support to all relevant partners, to ensure the highest possible quality and effectiveness of the CO integrated climate resilience and food systems efforts  .
  • Support capacity strengthening and coaching on targeting, application of appropriate soil and water conservation techniques,  context-relevant environmentally and socio-economically sustainable livelihood options, identifying viable business packages, potential impacts of climate change on ecosystem regeneration and agricultural activities, etc.
  • Identify options and strategic partnerships for integration of digital/technological innovations to strengthen smallholder farmer livelihoods, market access, access to tools and information, etc.
  • Support the implementation of the CSP midterm review and Adaptation Fund midterm review recommendations and the management response plan in consideration of the logical frameworks.
  • Support formulation of the proposals and other CO resource mobilization efforts for climate change adaptation, resilience, livelihood interventions.
  • Promote implementation of 3 Pronged Approach and action oriented research in collaboration with the academic institutions to influence policy direction, documentation of lessons learned, good practices, success stories for replication and scaling, as required by the donors.
  • Support the development and implementation of a sustainable exit strategy in the project sites
  • Represent WFP in relevant forums and meetings.

  • Experience in programme management including design, monitoring, and evaluation.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Advanced University degree in natural resource management, agriculture, agricultural economics, rural development, or related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years’ experience working in Livelihoods, SAMS, value chain development, business development, social protection, humanitarian, and resilience projects.
  • Language: Verbal and written fluency in English
