The Protection Information Management (PIM) Specialist will be responsible for the revision and roll-out of an updated Protection Monitoring process for DRC Sudan, namely leading the updating of a PowerBI dashboard, data cleaning, and data analysis process for protection monitoring data collected across Sudan.

The position will support the Protection Coordinator in ensuring quality quantitative and qualitative data analysis and will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of protection program-related data collection and information management systems. The position will play a key role in contributing to and supporting protection programming and advocacy through streamlining the collection, analysis, and sharing of information following professional standards for PIM. This work will further contribute to improved, evidence-based programming across the mission and the wider humanitarian response by improving the production and analysis quality of PIM products, including protection monitoring reports and rapid protection assessment snapshots to be shared internally and externally with key stakeholders.         

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Lead on updating and rolling out of new PowerBI dashboard based on newly developed data collection toolset.
  • Develop, implement and maintain DRC Sudan’s protection information management systems by incorporating PIM matrix system, tools, and approaches and using systematized and collaborative framework.
  • Provide PIM technical supervision to field-based PIM Officers, including ongoing training and capacity building.
  • Produce protection snapshots and dashboards on a monthly basis, highlighting key protection issues and trends in coordination with Protection Coordinator, Protection Managers, Advocacy Coordinator, and DRC partners.
  • Follow up closely on contextual developments to propose new thematic areas of focus to research.
  • Explore innovative means and methods for data collection in contexts with limited access.
  • Support the production of thematic reports in consultation with Protection Coordinator, Protection Manager, Advocacy Coordinator and partners.
  • Monitor and review data collection methodologies and quality of information collected in to change, update, and improve research tools and systems in collaboration with Protection Coordinator.
  • Process data, compile and disseminate information for use in various protection-related materials, including but not limited to reports, briefings and analysis.
  • Conduct supervision activities for evidence generation and protection monitoring staff and conduct quality checks on collected data to ensure quality of data collection and reporting.
  • Support evidence generation and protection monitoring and other relevant staff in field monitoring visits for tracking and recording of data.
  • Follow up with evidence generation and protection monitoring staff to clarify information, and conduct data triangulation with other sources to ensure accuracy.
  • Work in close collaboration with other sectors to ensure that information collection and reporting is integrated across all sectors.
  • Lead on capacity development of DRC staff on Protection Information Management, including data collection processes and protocols, and monitoring tools.
  • Support Protection Coordinator and Advocacy Coordinator in the development of position papers and other information products to inform response and advocacy.
  • Support in donor reporting and development of concept notes and proposals for future programing.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with UNHCR, INGO, government authorities, and other key stakeholders to ensure active coordination, collaboration, and information dissemination.
  • Undertake other tasks as requested by the Protection Coordinator.

Minimum Qualification, Skills, and Experience Required:

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

  • Minimum of three years practical experience in research or protection monitoring, working for INGOs in humanitarian settings.
  • Excellent knowledge of research/data collection and protection monitoring methodologies, experience in the development and roll-out of data collection tools.
  • Proven experience in developing PowerBI dashboards and data visualization.
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, including through the protection analytical framework, and familiarity with relevant international frameworks (international humanitarian law and human rights law).
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and synthesize information in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrable experience producing quality protection reports under tight deadlines using both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
  • Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and other data analysis software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-cultural environment as well as independently.
  • Proven experience in capacity building of teams including development of training materials.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and attention to detail

Education background: (include certificates, licenses, etc.)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Human Rights, Law, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Human Rights, Law, or a related field

languages: (indicate fluency level)

  • Fluency in English is required
  • Fluency in Arabic is desirable
