We collaborate closely with government agencies, non-profit organizations, academic institutions, and private landowners to collect scientific data, conduct field surveys, and evaluate habitat capacity to support biodiversity. Our research endeavors include the study of native plant and animal species, the identification of rare and endangered species habitats, natural history of invasive plants, and long-term monitoring efforts of various taxa.

In addition to our research initiatives, we provide technical assistance and training for land use planning, conservation, and environmental management efforts. Our team of experts provides technical proficiency and scientific guidance to inform land management decisions and safeguard vulnerable habitats and species of conservation concern.

Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Research Technician. The successful candidate will assist with biological surveys, wildlife species studies, and research on invasive species and other topics of conservation concern. This position offers opportunities to conduct fieldwork studying a variety of taxa (e.g. herpetofauna, birds, bats, butterflies, rare and/or invasive plants) and assist in the preparation of technical reports and scientific papers to advance conservation practices in the Hudson Valley and neighboring regions.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s in Ecology, Botany, Environmental Science, or related field
• Familiarity with northeastern woody and non-woody plants or willingness to learn
• Field experience
• Proficiency in technical writing and data management
• Some experience with GIS
• Able to communicate well in English with the general public, landowners, collaborators, and colleagues
• Personal vehicle and valid driver’s license for travel to field sites

Ideal Qualifications:

• Field experience with multiple taxa
• Radiotelemetry experience
• Experience with R programming or an interest in learning
• Experience with technical and scientific writing, such as biodiversity assessments, environmental management reports, or scientific papers

Responsibilities:

• Conduct wildlife radiotelemetry surveys (1-2 days per week)
• Curating and cataloging biological specimens
• Archiving data (including digitizing herbarium specimens)
• Assist with and write scientific reports by synthesizing literature and applying findings to practical conservation efforts and environmental management techniques (e.g. non-chemical treatment of invasive plants)
• Conduct year-round fieldwork, focusing on botany and other surveys (potentially herpetofauna, birds, bats, butterflies, rare and/or invasive plants, or other taxa)
  Physical Requirements:
• This position involves year-round fieldwork, including outdoor activities in various weather conditions. Applicants must be physically capable of performing field work tasks, including walking on uneven terrain and carrying equipment.

Compensation:
Compensation is $17.00/hr – $21/hr based upon experience. Full-time employment benefits include fully paid health insurance, SIMPLE IRA, and after three months of satisfactory experience, eligible for up to two days of remote work per week for full-time positions. We hope to hire a full-time technician, but might accommodate part-time and/or seasonal employment.
