The AMC seeks a Lands Planner, where your passion for preserving natural landscapes meets a dynamic role. This position will report to the VP of Land, Research, and Trails while closely collaborating with multiple departments across the organization. The Lands Planner will develop and implement management plans for AMC owned properties in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York to ensure consistency and long-erm sustainability of these resources. This position will work closely with AMC Lodging Department, Trails Department, Research Department, Interpretive Programs Department, and others to accomplish the identified needs.
This position will be Remote, however the ideal candidate will be based near Greenville, Maine. Preference will be given to those based in the northern New England region (NH/ME).
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING AT AMC
- Develop and implement comprehensive land management plans for AMC owned properties as well as long-term leased lands across AMC’s regions in partnership with Land Department staff.
- Coordinate implementation efforts with AMC Lodging Department, Trails Department, and others to uphold the ecological integrity, access, and recreational opportunities on AMC lands.
- Collaborate with local communities to develop and implement initiatives fostering regional connections to AMC’s landscape, promoting environmental awareness and conservation.
- Contribute to public access management of AMC property, ensuring responsible and sustainable use of natural resources.
- Inventory and monitor visitor information and signage for AMC lands with a focus on environmental conservation and visitor education.
- Identify opportunities for new or expanded resource protection efforts, recreational assets, or restoration efforts on AMC land.
WHAT AMC IS LOOKING FOR
- Passion for the outdoor recreation, conservation, and education mission of the AMC.
- Bachelor’s degree in natural resource or recreation-related field and/or 3-5 years or more of experience in planning, conservation planning, acquisitions. Relevant work experience will be weighed equally with any earned degrees.
- Demonstrated proficiency in inventory management, resource monitoring, and data analysis to inform decision-making.
- In-depth knowledge of planning and development of land management plans with environmental conservation goals.
- Proven ability to cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with a variety of stakeholders, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, local communities, and recreational user groups.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to facilitate collaboration and address potential conflicts.
- Track record of successful joint ventures, cooperative projects, or partnerships that have positively impacted environmental land management and trail systems.
- Ability to assess the needs of diverse user groups and integrate their input into strategic planning for sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, zoning, and land use planning to ensure responsible and well-managed public access to natural areas.
- The job requires occasional overnight travel to property locations.

WHAT AMC CAN OFFER YOU
Salary range: $53,144 – $71,760 / year

The initial salary represents our starting point, and our compensation philosophy is designed to reward and recognize the contributions of our employees as they grow within the organization. External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, skills and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
