Director of Family Philanthropy to join our Advancement team and
help support the mission of the College as we launch For Every
Future: the Campaign for Middlebury. In this position you have the

working with current and past parent donors. With a reach that
extends beyond its Vermont campus, state-of-the-art environmental

The Director of Family Philanthropy reports to the AVP for
Development, serves as prospect manager for a prescribed donor pool
and supervises the Associate Director of Family Philanthropy
directing activity and providing strategic oversight for the
assessment, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for
Middlebury parents and grandparents, current and past, and young
alumni from generous families with the philanthropic capacity
ratings above $100,000.
The Director coordinates with Advancement colleagues and campus
partners to sustain and increase overall fundraising of the parent
population while maximizing the engagement and support to achieve
established institutional financial goals to support Middlebury’s
mission.
This is a full time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a
hiring range of $118,804-$151,508 per year. This role is
anticipated to be in-person, with flexibility for remote or hybrid
arrangements for the ideal candidate.
Core Responsibilities:
- Manage the Family Philanthropy Program, a holistic approach
which includes oversight of the assessment, cultivation,
solicitation, and stewardship of all Middlebury undergraduate
current and past parents along with recent graduates of generous
families with an estimated gift capacity of $100,000 and above
across the division. - Supervise the Associate Director of Parent Giving, who manages
the Parents Committee and a prescribed donor pool of parent
prospects. - Establishes and maintains a portfolio of prospects to solicit
leadership, principal, planned and blended gifts from prospects
with the estimated giving capacity of $100,000 and above. Work
independently and creatively to match donor interests with
institutional priorities and develop funding proposals with the
ability to negotiate and structure complex gifts. - Maintain in-depth knowledge of the College’s campaign
priorities, academic and co-curricular programs; develop
relationships with key faculty and administrators working with or
impacting parent constituents; and support Advancement colleagues
working with parent prospects. - Prepare briefings, stewardship plans, proposals and new fund
agreements for prospects, collaborating with - Advancement colleagues, the President’s office and members of
the Senior Leadership Group. Travel with the President and other
members of the Administration to engage, cultivate, solicit and
steward top donors. - Develop comprehensive engagement strategies for regional
fundraising related to their assigned prospect pool and the overall
pool of parent prospects. - Develop a family of wealth programming working across
Advancement to implement cultivation opportunities and solicitation
strategies for recent graduates of parents who are generous to the
institution.
Keep abreast of current best practices in the Development
profession and evaluate new and emerging ideas for potential
implementation.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required, masters or post graduate degree or
equivalent work experience preferred. - Minimum 8 years fundraising and 3 or more years of management
experience. Proven management experience and administrative skills
to organize, direct, motivate and evaluate other professionals,
support staff, and volunteers. Track record of raising six-figure
and seven-figure gifts over multiple years. - Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills to provide
professional development opportunities to team members. Proven

and volunteers. - Strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to
translate internal information to an external audience both
verbally and in writing. - Willingness, and ability, to travel extensively.
- Demonstrated experience with budget preparation and resource
management. - A strong personal commitment to Middlebury’s core values and a
deep appreciation for the liberal arts college experience is
essential to this role. - Competence in database and spreadsheet software.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Valid driver’s license; ability to travel via air and public
transport.
