SUMMARY

The Development Manager is a full-time, salaried, exempt
position for an experienced individual who loves our gente
fiercely, and is ready to ensure Poder NC has the financial
resources to build Latinx political power in North Carolina. The
Development Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of
grant applications, grant reports, and tracking funder
communications. They will also support our Executive Leadership
Team to develop and implement a fundraising strategy that includes
both institutional and individual giving. They will support the
Executive Leadership Team to develop realistic benchmarks and stay
accountable to timelines. In the final quarter of each fiscal year,
the Development Manager will lead an evaluation of the prior year’s
fundraising plan, and assist with budget forecasting and
development of the fundraising strategy for the upcoming fiscal
year. The Development Manager will ensure that all program staff
report benchmarks, progress to goals, and program impacts with
accuracy, timeliness, and specificity, so that our grant reports
tell the story of our work in an accurate and compelling way.

Essential Job Duties / Functions Grants
Management & Operations (25%)

    Monitor the life cycle of all
    grants–from pre-award, award, and post-award phases–to ensure all
    application materials, reports, and other requirements are properly
    executed and documented
    Create and maintain a grant process
    and workflow which makes it clear who is responsible for each step:
    from identifying leads, cultivating funder relationships, drafting
    and submitting applications, tracking grant awards / payments,
    reporting, close out, and renewal 
    Collaborate with the Executive
    Leadership Team to develop a program overview for each fiscal year,
    which will serve as a starting point for building each grant
    application
    With support from the Executive
    Leadership Team and program staff, draft all grant proposals to be
    clear, concise, and compelling
    Ensure all grant application
    deadlines are met, communicating proactively with Executive
    Leadership Team and program staff to ensure component pieces are
    received in timely manner
    Communicate proactively with funders,
    when applicable and appropriate, to ensure grant application
    timelines are adjusted where necessary

Grants Reporting (25%)

    Ensure all grant reports contain
    accurate information relevant to the specific grant based on the
    activities outlined in the grant application and award letter
    Request, gather, and synthesize
    quantitative and qualitative data from all relevant staff on
    programs and other activities, including but not limited to: photos
    and other media, unique stories from our base, narrative accounts
    of events, and quantitative impacts, including analysis of impacts
    to voter turnout
    Draft and submit grant reports by or
    before applicable deadlines, communicating proactively with the
    Executive Leadership Team and program staff as needed to ensure
    source materials for reporting are provided in a timely manner
    Communicate proactively with funders,
    when applicable and appropriate, to ensure grant reporting
    timelines are adjusted where necessary

Management of Individual Giving (15%)

    Track individual giving using
    EveryAction, ActBlue, and any other fundraising and data
    platforms
    Ensure donor database is updated
    regularly
    Manage communications to individual
    donors, ensuring all donors receive thank you notes in a timely
    way, as agreed upon with Co-Executive Directors 
    In collaboration with Co-Executive
    Directors, develop individual giving strategies that bring in a
    consistent and increasing amount of individual donations year over
    year

Systematization of Grants Management (20%)

    Develop, implement, and maintain a
    system to manage and track all grants in our pipeline
    Identify a user-friendly,
    cost-effective platform / software to facilitate this new
    system
    Ensure the above system is realistic
    and accessible enough to fit into staff’s daily workflow
    Develop a system for tracking all
    funder interactions that allows for seamless sharing of information
    among members of the Executive Leadership Team
    Create charts, dashboards, and other
    data analytics to support programmatic, financial, and operational
    decision-making

Strategy, Evaluation, & Forecasting (10%)

    Facilitate, support, and
    project-manage the Executive Leadership Team in the development of
    a fundraising strategy plan before the start of the fiscal
    year
    Build Poder’s portfolio of 501(c)3
    dollars by researching and initiating contact with new funders
    Collaborate with Executive Leadership
    Team to evaluate the fundraising strategy at the end of the fiscal
    year, and interpret results to assist with financial forecasting
    and fundraising strategy for the upcoming fiscal year

Additional Responsibilities (5%)

    Administrative duties (e.g.,
    timesheets for hourly staff, maintaining one’s calendar and other
    productivity tools used by the team)
    Organizational development, team
    building, and individual professional development
    Collaboration / coordination with
    team members on any “all hands on deck” events
    Prioritize rest by scheduling time
    off in accordance with Poder NC’s PTO policy
    Other responsibilities as
    assigned

Supervision

The Grants Manager will report directly to the Co-Executive
Director for Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS Experience

    4+ years of grants management
    experience with both 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 nonprofits 
    Administrator-level experience with a
    grants management database 
    Experience working with Poder’s
    target communities (people of color, LGBTQ+ communities, young
    people) strongly preferred

Preferred Qualifications  

    Proficient use of Asana &
    EveryAction
    Bachelor’s degree in a relevant
    field 
    Knowledge surrounding Latinx, Black,
    and LGBTQ+ communities.
    Working knowledge of the North
    Carolina political landscape, activism, and issues impacting the
    Latinx community.
    Understanding of the cultural nuances
    of Southern communities and the various experiences of rural and
    urban communities.

Working Conditions

This position primarily works in an office environment with a
desk, chair, and laptop computer. Upon hire, full time employees
are eligible to request or be directly reimbursed for up to $500 of
office equipment. Items purchased must be approved by the head of
operations department. Examples of items purchased might include:
additional computer monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. Technology
valued $50 or over must be returned to Poder NC if or when the
employee exits the organization.

Regular working hours are 9:00am – 5:00pm US Eastern Time. All
employees must be willing to work occasional non-standard hours,
including evenings and weekends, and travel extensively within
North Carolina when required. As of February 2024, the Poder NC
team currently has a “hybrid” work-from-home/in-person-work model.
This model requires staff to report to our office Tuesday through
Thursday. In-person work is based in the Triangle area, and all
employees are expected to comply with in-person work expectations
unless communicated otherwise.

Salary & Benefits

Annual salary for this position is  $52,700 to $60,200,
depending on experience. We use the Compensation Scale Equity
ProcessTM and Compensation Scale Equity CalculatorTM to calculate
salaries and achieve internal and external equity. We also have
internal transparency on staff salaries. We recognize that job
candidates may need some time to transition to this compensation
model. For this reason, Poder NC is offering a signing bonus of
$15,000 to the right candidate. This signing bonus is offered in
anticipation of the contributions you will make to our organization
over time. In the event that you resign before completing
twenty-four (24) months of employment, or you are terminated for
cause before twenty-four (24) months of employment, you will be
required to repay the prorated, remaining balance of your signing
bonus. Any such repayment may be deducted in whole or part from any
final payments due to you.

Poder NC Action offers employer-based health care and dental
benefits. We cover 100% of those benefits for the individual
employee and 50% for employee dependents. Employees are responsible
for any cost difference above and beyond the employer-selected
policy. We also welcome employees to participate in our 401k
program with a match of up to 3%. Finally, we have an unlimited
paid time off policy, with process requirements when submitting PTO
and having it approved, and a few exceptions during even number
election years.
