Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. Context:

Working under the overall direction of the Programme Manager and the direct supervision of the National Officer, the intern will assist with the programmatic activities of the Protection Division in the Mission.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Work with the National Officer on programmatic activities for return and reintegration, counter-trafficking and on the overall thematic area of protection, as well as on matters involving the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM);
  • Assist with the preparation of activity reports, minutes, presentations, and talking points as assigned;
  • Liaise with external and internal partners to organize trainings, meetings, workshops and other events;
  • Support the drafting and reviewing of terms of references, training modules, concept notes, standard operating procedures, tools, manuals, guidelines and other materials;
  • Support development and implementation of projects in the areas of counter-trafficking and return and reintegration;
  • Assist in general administrative tasks; and
  • Undertake all other tasks as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Master’s Degree in Migration Studies, Social Work, International Relations or Development, Human Rights or Humanitarian Law, Social or Political Science, or any related field from an accredited academic institution. Or;
  • Graduate students who are either in their final year or recently graduated with less than one year experience.

Skills

  • Strong organizational and coordination skills;
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds;
  • Practical experience of how to multi-task, prioritize and work independently;
  • Can proficiently use MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);

Languages

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of Filipino is preferred.

Eligibility and Selection

In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:

a) Have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;

b) Are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or

c) Are sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor;

d) are either students approaching the end of their studies and preparing a thesis, or recently graduated, who have less than two years of relevant working experience;

f) Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and additional enquiries will only be addressed if the candidate is shortlisted.

g) Depending on experience and location, IOM provides a small monthly stipend to help offset costs.
