Overview of Position

The selected candidate will be responsible for driving our clients mobile clinic, composed of a Toyota Hilux pick up carrying a trailer; This unit is equipped with a refrigerator for medicines, AC unit, examination bed, a generator & other medical material. Daily, the mobile clinic will be moved by the selected candidate incumbent to designated locations, according to a weekly plan & provide PHC services. The support medical team is to be mobilized with the mobile unit. Transportation of other persons, other than the clinical staff, needs a previous authorization from the program. No person shall be inside the trailer while on movement nor until correctly stationed. During the day the car may be used for referral of patients to health facilities while the clinic continues the operation on the ground but always following a direct instruction from our clients program (PM / PO / FP). At the end of the daily activity, the mobile clinic unit must be locked & parked at the identified location for that purpose.

Role Objectives

  • To timely & safely move the mobile clinic from / to operation sites & support the health technical team on the day to day operations.
  • To ensure that the mobile clinic (unit) is at its peak conditions of work (mechanical & inside / outside cleanliness & hygiene).

Expected outputs include but are not limited to:

  • To drive our clients mobile clinic unit (vehicle, trailer, equipment & staff) strictly adhering to our clients rules & regulations, as well as national legislation.
  • To, only, transport authorized personnel & ensure that the vehicle is used exclusively for official / authorized business, according to the supervisor´s workplan & during work hours.
  • To be responsible for the day to day maintenance of the assigned vehicle and trailer, ensuring its roadworthiness; This includes the daily check of tires, brakes, engine oil, fan belt, etc.
  • To keep records of spare parts for the vehicle & conduct monthly spare part inventory.
  • In coordination with our client`s logistic team, ensure that the vehicle undertakes regular servicing & on regular intervals.
  • Arrange for minor repairs, in coordination with logistics team & ensure that the mobile clinic unit is always kept clean (inside & out).
  • To ensure that the vehicle has a full tank & is technically ready prior departure for field trips.
  • Identify the most effective & efficient route to reach the requested destination.
  • Implement measures to reduce potential security risks to our client officials or property within the immediate vicinity of the vehicle & along transport routes.
  • Ensure that appropriate actions are taken in line with local rules & regulations in the event of an accident.
  • Maintain the vehicle logbook properly updated & timely signed by staff using the vehicle.
  • Ensure that the daily logbook & monthly report is prepared, summarizing statistics on mileage, fuel consumption, etc.
  • Undertake other office assignments & small errands when instructed.
  • Adhere to our client`s code of conduct as well as the local code of transit rules & regulations for road travel.
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentially & discreteness in discussions & travels, which involves our client`s & its officials.
  • Reporting is done through the car logbook indicating dates, time, movements & locations, including the details that refer to refuelling, maintenance & repairs.
  • Perform other duties as may be required.

Project Reporting

  • This role reports to the line manager.

Key Competencies

  • Holding a valid & official Mozambican driving license (category BE light vehicles with trailer) with confirmed professional experience of which the last 2 years with no reported accidents.
  • Being experienced in driving mobile units composed of vehicle & trailer.
  • Good communication, interpersonal & organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated gender awareness & gender sensitivity.
  • Ability to work effectively & harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures & professional backgrounds.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility & drive for results.
  • At least 3 years of experience in driving light vehicles.
  • At least 2 years of experience in driving light vehicles with trailer (BE category) on off roads.
  • Must have prior & relevan work experience in Cabo Delgado province.
  • Must be fluent in Portuguese & working knowlledge of Makua, Makonde & English.
