INTRODUCTION
Supply, Delivery, Installation & Commissioning of 750 Nos of 0.12 Acres Sprinkler Irrigation Systems for smallholder farmers in Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi Districts. (RFQ/CITI/2405/17)
The Sri Lanka Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Investor Map underscores the critical importance of food systems as a priority sector for investment opportunities. Within this context, access to affordable finance and markets emerges as a significant challenge for farmers, particularly smallholders. The complexities of this issue necessitate targeted measures aimed at facilitating access to financial support coupled with technical assistance.
Smallholder farmers in Sri Lanka often encounter barriers when seeking commercial credit facilities, primarily due to high-interest rates and stringent collateral requirements. This inaccessibility exacerbates financial exclusion and impedes the ability of farmers to invest in their agricultural enterprises effectively. In response to these challenges, the project supported by the CITI Foundation seeks to leverage existing efforts led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other partners. Through collaborative and innovative approaches, the project aims to address food insecurity and enhance resilience within Sri Lanka’s food systems.
As an essential component of this initiative, the procurement attempt involves the purchase of 750 micro irrigation systems. These systems will be strategically distributed among beneficiaries in the Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi districts. By enhancing access to technical assistance and deploying innovative financing solutions, the project aims to bolster community resilience and improve the productive capacity of smallholder farmers in the targeted districts.
In this context the UNDP in Sri Lanka invites eligible suppliers to submit their quotations for Supply, Delivery, Installation & Commissioning of 750 No.s of 0.12 Acres Sprinkler Irrigation Systems.
