Duties and Responsibilities

Org. Setting and Reporting The internship is located in the Field Operations Finance Division (FOFD) in the Office of Programme, Planning, Finance and Budget (OPPFB) in the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC).

The SPM&GAMP Service provides strategic guidance with respect to global property management and real estate services, including oversight of major construction projects and long-term capital planning. The internship is for a duration of three months, with possible extension up to a maximum of six months, depending on the needs of the department.

The internship is UNPAID and is designed to be remotely and full-time. Interns work up to five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned. Responsibilities We are seeking highly motivated individuals who wish to gain professional experience in project management and reporting, administrative procedures and practices, and analysis of budgeting, within an international organization in order to supplement their studies.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Research and compile information relating to project mandates, expenditures, adopted strategies, as they relate to project proposals and submissions;
  • Assist in drafting and preparing official documents, reports and presentations;
  • Assist in organizing, attend and summarize meetings;
  • Generate a variety of statistical and other reports using various spreadsheets/data in Excel, SAP, MS PowerBI;
  • Support evaluation of projects;
  • Identify variances between approved budgets and actual project expenditures;
  • Liaise with other Sections in FOFD and/or other UN entities on administrative matters;
  • Perform ad hoc tasks as needed.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
