  • Location: Program Development @ Central Library
  • Hours: Full -time,40 hours per week
  • Schedule: Typically Monday through Friday 9am-5pm, including occasional required evening and weekend hours
  • FLSA Status: Exempt
  • Starting Annual Salary: $74,922

Position Summary

The Area Resource Manager, Adult Services oversees the staff and activities of the Adult Programming group, facilitates regular meetings of Adult Services staff, offers training and mentoring opportunities to the Adult Services staff, monitors adult system-wide programming and services, stays updated on trends in Adult Services, represents Adult Programming and Services to the community, and works with community partners. The Manager is responsible to plan, direct and oversee the operations and fiscal health of a business unit, department, or an operating unit within an organization. The Manager provides departmental leadership and direction in support of the organization’s goals through staffing, training, performance management and directing the department workflow. The Manager is also responsible for planning and maintaining work systems, procedures and policies that enable optimal performance of employees, volunteers, and other resources within a business unit.

A successful candidate will…

  • Have an MLS or MIS degree.
  • Have an Indiana State Librarian Certificate 2, or be able to obtain it upon hire.
  • Have previous branch management experience, such as a branch manager or supervisor librarian.
  • Have 7 to 9 years of previous work experience in a Library and/or in a management role.
  • Have previous experience hiring, training, and supervising staff.
  • Have experience developing partnerships with neighborhood groups, as well as overseeing service plans and programs for the community.
  • Have flexibility to complete work at current location, while also guiding and assisting processes and operations of other branches.

What does the job look like?

  • Directs implementation of system-wide adult programming.
  • Supervises Program Specialists who implement large programs such as author talks.
  • Curates the system-wide training of Librarians in their specialty area to ensure consistent customer service across the system.
  • Supports Branch ARMs in the hiring and evaluation of Adult Services staff.
  • Serves as subject matter experts when called upon by other departments such as CMSA and Office of Strategic Planning.
  • Identifies industry trends and implements them at IndyPL when appropriate.
  • Able to work the normally scheduled work time for this position.
  • Able to cope with daily job-related stress.
