Job Overview: Under the supervision of the Early Employment Manager, the Education Specialist will work with the Economic Empowerment Team through an integrated approach to help refugees learn new concepts, adapt to US Workforce norms and expectations, and thrive financially in the U.S. This role will be responsible for coordinating classes such as Job Readiness, Advanced Work Readiness, Financial Literacy, Vocational ESL, and Supplementary workshops. This position will work with clients to build essential skills and increase financial capabilities, while tracking progress towards outcomes and working collaboratively with other staff.

Responsibilities:

Work Readiness and English Education

  • Implement and conduct vocational training courses that include Job Readiness Training (JRT), ESL, cultural and workplace orientation, mock interviews, creation of resumes, and job skills development sessions;
  • Keep accurate attendance records and client pre- and post-assessments, including ETO data entry and PEST forms.
  • Provide English proficiency exams to over 400 participants each fiscal year.
  • Use ETO and any other funder required databases to track client services, outcomes, and metrics.
  • Participate in all-staff/ program meetings and provide updates for JRT
  • Meet with JRT volunteers on a monthly basis to review schedules and update JRT calendar.
  • Coordinate with Employment Specialist to ensure clients attend JRT workshops on a timely basis.
  • Update Master tracker with JRT status up to completion of 20 hours.
  • Meet with Program Manager for weekly check-ins to provide updates.
  • Schedule Interpreters for each class in a timely manner.
  • Reach out to clients or other ESL providers for attendance records of VESL clients who are not attending ESL classes at the IRC.
  • Promote and actively participate in initiatives and efforts to build team engagement, inclusion, and cohesion in IRC Sacramento.
  • Foster ongoing learning, honest dialogue, and reflection to strengthen safeguarding and to promote IRC values and adherence to IRC policies.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to: Early Employment Manager

Position directly supervises: Interns and volunteers.

Indirect Reporting: Early Employment Supervisor(s)

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated relevant work experience in teaching multi-cultural populations on relevant topics.
  • Prior experience providing direct service to underserved or refugee populations preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with an array of workforce and financial topics, including job readiness training and financial capabilities curriculums.
  • Previous multi-cultural experience and demonstrated ability to communicate well with people of varied backgrounds strongly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge and comfort coaching others on the following topics: workplace norms and processes and financial education including creating a budget, banking, and establishing credit.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Extensive experience in presenting, teaching, and leading training workshops both in person and online.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly Word and Excel required. Prior experience using data and fiscal tracking systems strongly preferred.
  • Attention to detail and ability to efficiently and accurately organize, track, and communicate large amounts of information which impact multiple staff and departments.
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration across all IRC programs.
  • Highly motivated with an ability to work independently, develop new classes and programming, and be a self-starter, maintaining responsibility for multiple tasks.

Working Environment:

  • Standard office work environment coupled with regular travel in and around the service delivery area.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • Stable Wi-Fi with hybrid model.

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
