The mission of the Human Development Report Office (HDRO)/UNDP is to advance human development. HDRO strives toward this objective by championing innovative ideas, constructively critiquing policies and approaches that hinder human development, and advocating for practical policy changes. This mission is realized through the dedicated work in research, statistics, digital platforms, innovative data and technology, and advocacy efforts.
The Human Climate Horizons Data Platform is a strategic initiative designed to advance metrics and understanding of impacts of climate change on people and human development, charting our possible paths forward, and informing actions and strategies to accelerate climate mitigation, adaptation and just transition. A collaborative effort between UNDP and the Climate Impact Lab, the platform is a window into possible futures, covering projected impacts of climate change for all countries and territories, and with time horizons over the entire 21st century.
Scope of Work
- Under the supervision of the Head of HDRO Digital, Data and Knowledge Management, and with overall oversight from the HDRO Director, the Technical Analyst will contribute to technical analysis and the development of content and narratives for the Human Climate Horizons Data Platform and other HDRO initiatives. The Analyst will also participate in enhancing the platform, advancing its impact and utility, identifying engagements and partnerships, and contribute in organizing events, workshops, and webinars.
Responsibilities:
Technical Analysis and content:
- Develop content and narratives for different outputs, including launch materials, blogs, web stories, publications, presentations, and infographics.
- Contribute to technical analysis and research of climate change data, trends, and impacts on human development.
- Support the development of insights and recommendations using the HCH data and data from other sources.
- Collaborate with experts and stakeholders to identify emerging issues and opportunities in the intersection of climate change and human development.
- Synthesize complex technical information into actionable insights for different groups including policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders.
Platform Development:
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of the Human Climate Horizons Platform, ensuring it remains at the technological forefront in terms of digital and data communication.
- Collaborate with data scientists and developers to integrate new features, tools, and data sources into the platform.
- Contribute to user experience and interface improvements.
Advance Partnerships, Engagement and Application:
- Identify engagement and partnership opportunities with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions, NGOs, private sector, and others.
- Organize and facilitate workshops, webinars, and other events to promote knowledge sharing and collaboration within different communities.
- Identify relevant events to promote the application of platform data.
- Create compelling presentations to showcase the platform’s capabilities and impact.
- Develop training programs to build the capacity of partners and stakeholders in utilizing the Human Climate Horizons Platform.
- Provide technical support and guidance to internal and external users of the platform
- Minimum Qualifications of the Successful PSA
Min. Education requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant field such as environmental science, climate change, data science, journalism, or a related discipline is required; or a first-level university degree (Bachelor´s degree) in the areas mentioned above in combination with additional 2 years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of Master´s degree.
Min. years of relevant work experience
- Minimum 2 years (with Master´s degree) or 4 years (with Bachelor´s degree) of experience in technical analysis and research, with a focus on climate change and human development.
Required skills
- Strong communication, writing, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information, research and data into effective and engaging narratives.
- Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section
- Experience with climate change-related issues, climate data, and visualizations is desirable.
- Experience in fostering partnerships and engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, including research, academia, governments, and the private sector, is desirable.
- Experience in contributing to digital data platforms and websites through research, content creation, and user experience enhancements is desirable.
Required Language(s)
- Fluency in English is required.
- Working knowledge of another UN official language is desirable
