Job Overview: 

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 30 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC New York’s Economic Empowerment Department provides employment and career assistance to approximately 500 refugees, asylees, and other immigrants each year. Through a variety of services including Early Employment, Career Development, Food and Agriculture, and Financial Capabilities programs, the IRC supports refugee, asylee, and immigrant clients to gain employment and career advancement opportunities in the New York City area.

Under the supervision of the Senior Economic Empowerment Manager, the Training and Partnerships Specialist builds, maintains, and strengthens partnerships with training partners, vocational training institutions, community colleges, and other community organizations in order to ensure high quality education and training access for our clients. This role will also coordinate IRC New York’s workshops and client training opportunities, liaising with vendors and partners, IRC New York’s Operations department, other programs departments, and other partners and stakeholders.

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct outreach to training and social services partners on behalf of the IRC to present our services, programs, and clients
  • Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with new and existing training partners in a wide range of industries, such as manufacturing, clean energy, food service, healthcare, and hospitality, among others 
  • Create and sustain a direct, clear, and regular line of communication with all internal and external partners
  • Working closely with the Workforce Job Developer, liaise with workforce development boards and other relevant training stakeholders in NYC and the surrounding area
  • Plan and organize IRC-offered training courses and opportunities for clients
  • Working closely with the Career Development specialists, support clients in accessing and succeeding in training opportunities
  • Become a subject matter expert in the roles, industries, and companies that our training programs focus on
  • Participate in IRC network-wide initiatives to understand and share best-practices to enhance training and apprenticeship programming
  • Monitor industry data and trends, utilizing labor market index information to strategize ideal training opportunities for clients in line with market trends
  • Working closely with the Economic Empowerment coordinators and the Adult Education department, lead the coordination of IRC New York’s internal job readiness training and financial capacities workshop series
  • Develop presentation materials and facilitate workshops and information sessions both virtually and in person, including job readiness workshops and other trainings for clients as appropriate and presentations to external partners
  • Working closely with the Senior Manager, Economic Empowerment and Development department, lead the coordination of corporate volunteer learning opportunities for clients
  • Other ad hoc duties as assigned

Job Requirements: 

Work Experience: 

  • At least two years of related professional experience in workforce development 
  • Experience in a non-profit setting a plus
  • Knowledge of career pathways and industry certification requirements
  • Experience in sales a plus

      Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Exceptional organizational skills with proven attention to detail
  • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a diverse, multi-cultural environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to travel regularly throughout New York City 

Language Skills: 

  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; bilingual ability preferred, preferably in Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, French, Arabic, Dari, Pashto and/or Farsi

Preferred experience & skills: 

  • Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional team structure
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to manage and work through change in a proactive and positive manner

Working Environment

  • Standard office work environment, along with some field work, including local travel to employers, and other community-based partners. Three days in-person and two optional remotes days per week depending on work events scheduled.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.

US Benefits: The IRC offers a comprehensive and highly competitive set of benefits. All US employees are eligible for sick time, a 403b retirement savings plans: up to 4.5% immediately vested matching contribution, plus an 3-7% additional IRC contribution, and an Employee Assistance Program which is available to our staff and their families to support in times of crisis and mental health struggles.

In addition, full-time employees are eligible for 10 US paid holidays, 20-25 paid time off days, disability & life insurance, medical, dental, and vision insurance (employee contribution starting at $135, $7, and $5 per month respectively) and FSA for healthcare, childcare, and commuter costs. Part-time employees are eligible for a proportionate amount of paid time off. These additional benefits apply to employees who work at least 6 months within a 12 month time period.
