In RMYC’s Conservation Corps, we offer positions to young adults to spend a season serving on meaningful conservation projects throughout northwest Colorado. (No prior experience is required!)
Conservation Crew Projects: may include a variety of trail construction/maintenance, fence installation/removal, invasive species management, campground improvements, habitat restoration, historic preservation work, etc.
Chainsaw Crew Projects: may include a variety of cutting to help maintain trails, improve habitats, manage fuels for wildland fire, protect waterways, improve forest health, etc. No previous chainsaw experience is required! Chainsaw crews are open to all.
During the Fall Season (August 16th/20th – October 11th, 2024) crews will travel to project sites, complete 10 hours of conservation-based project work per day, and camp together in a variety of outdoor conditions during the project week (5-9 days at a time), then will return to the office in Steamboat Springs, CO, and be ‘OFF’ for 2-5 days at a time. During your project days (or ‘hitch’), RMYC covers your crew’s food budget and transportation, but with ‘OFF’ time in the Fall, you are responsible for your food, transportation, and lodging. All corps members and leaders will participate in service projects, daily camp chores, and educational activities.
RMYC’s 2024 Fall Season will include 4 general conservation crews (Aug. 20th start), 3 full-time chainsaw crews (Aug. 16th start), and a potential disaster relief crew! Crew type will be discussed further in the interview process.
Must adhere to and enforce the rules and regulations of RMYC and AmeriCorps, which include abstaining from the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco while on hitch (fall); as well as other rules, regulations, and risk management protocol.
