The Policy Officer will work closely with a dynamic team of public affairs, communications and regulatory professionals, and play a pivotal role in the development and execution of CLIA’s advocacy strategy. Reporting directly to Senior Director of European Government Affairs CLIA in Europe, the Policy Officer will also support CLIA’s policy activities e.g. with regard to the development of messages and engagement with the European Institutions and other relevant stakeholders.

Essential Job Functions

  • Help develop and coordinate pan-EU advocacy strategies on regulatory processes that impact the cruise sector
  • Represent the industry at EU/Member State decision-maker meetings/events and other stakeholder meetings and events
  • Engage with officials of the European Commission, European Parliament, and Permanent Representations and other relevant institutions and agencies
  • Monitor political and regulatory developments and update internal data sources
  • Draft position papers and prepare advocacy materials
  • Support the work of CLIA Europe Committees 
  • Support and take part in Communications activities
  • Plan and manage ad-hoc events (e.g. topical webinars) as appropriate 
  • Organize and take minutes at meetings

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent required; Masters preferred 
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in EU policy (In-house, agency or trade association) or in an EU institution in Brussels 
  • Proven experience working on environmental legislation or transportation issues 
  • Thorough knowledge of the EU legislative processes
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to develop and communicate policy positions clearly and concisely
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Strategic and analytical thinker 
  • Curious, fast-learning, and willing to improve continuously
  • Highly developed intercultural, diplomatic, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-changing environment and handle multiple priorities
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team-player
  • Passionate about accuracy and attention to detail
  • Full professional fluency in English, other official EU languages would be an asset
  • Willingness to travel for business
