JOB PURPOSE
- As the primary catalyst for Operation Eyesight’s resource mobilization endeavours across Kenya, this role assumes a pivotal responsibility in advancing the organization’s mission to eradicate avoidable blindness.
- The essence of resource mobilization at Operation Eyesight is rooted in cultivating deep, meaningful relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders, including institutional donors, and corporate entities.
- The Resource Mobilization Manager, Kenya is entrusted with fostering a profound personal connection between these stakeholders and Operation Eyesight’s mission, particularly emphasizing the impact on the communities served.
- A central aspect of this philosophy involves expanding the organization’s donor database within Kenya and forging mutually beneficial partnerships to amplify the reach and effectiveness of its initiatives. Within the organization, the Resource Mobilization Manager assumes a leadership role in orchestrating corporate, multilateral funding, institutional donor engagement, and corporate donor outreach efforts across Kenya.
- The incumbent is tasked with developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy meticulously aligned with the unique contexts, priorities, and strategic objectives of Kenya, Collaboration lies at the heart of this role, necessitating close coordination with the country teams in Kenya, as well as the International Programmes Team and colleagues based at the gary Office. By working hand in hand with these stakeholders, the Resource Mobilization
- Manager ensures seamless integration of fundraising activities with on-the-ground programs and initiatives.
- Reporting directly to the Country Director- Kenya, this position occupies a central nexus within Operation Eyesight’s organizational structure, bridging the gap between local fundraising efforts and global strategic imperatives.
- In essence, the Resource Mobilization Manager, Kenya embodies a dynamic blend of strategic vision, relationship-building prowess, and operational acumen, driving forward Operation Eyesight’s mission to eliminate avoidable blindness across Kenya.
Key Accountabilities
- Design and execute fundraising strategy: Collaborate with Fund Development to develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with organizational goals, ensuring the mobilization of a specified amount of funds annually to support OEU’s mission and programs.
- Achieve fundraising targets: Set and achieve annual fundraising targets from individual donors, corporate partners, and institutional sources, optimizing processes to enhance donor retention and conversion rates.
- Innovate Fundraising Approaches: Generate innovative fundraising ideas and craft compelling proposals/concept notes to secure funding.
- Collaborate with Mar/Com to develop digital fundraising resources aiming to mobilize a predetermined amount of ffunds annually through digital channels.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Integrated Fundraising Strategy & Implementation:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with Country Strategic Plan objectives, collaborating with management to enhance fundraising approaches. Prepare annual fundraising plans and budgets, meeting revenue targets.
Corporate and institutional fundraising:
- Target Setting & Pipeline Management: Set and achieve annual fundraising targets from the institutional donors and corporate partners, managing pipelines, maintaining a database, establishing partnerships, and coordinating presentations and follow-ups.
- Optimization & Process Improvement: Scan for new fundraising opportunities, analyze monthly reports to enhance conversion rates and donor retention, and develop strategies for improving donor journeys.
- Institutional Partnerships: Explore calls for proposals for different institutional grants, establish partnerships, maintain a database and apply for institutional funding opportunities.
- Idea Generation & Proposal Development: Generate fundraising ideas, adapt approaches to meet organizational needs and market trends, and craft compelling concept notes, grant proposals, investment cases, reports etc.
- Digital Fundraising & Marketing: Enhanced Digital Reach & Branding: Collaborate with Mar/Com to develop digital resources, content strategies and media plans for fundraising campaigns.
- Timely Reporting & Stakeholder Communication: Ensure adherence to reporting timelines, participate in relevant fora and maintain regular communication with stakeholders on donor engagement progress.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya
- Frequent travel to donor locations and project locations in Kenya
- Flexible working hours to accommodate head office working hours.
- Act as an ambassador for OE in a variety of professional and social settings in Kenya
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related area is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in Fundraising, Philanthropy, or a related field are preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in fundraising, development, or related roles within the nonprofit sector, demonstrating a track record of successful fundraising campaigns, grant writing, donor cultivation, and stewardship.
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategic fundraising plans aligned with organizational goals, including setting targets, identifying funding opportunities, and evaluating fundraising effectiveness.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas persuasively and engage diverse stakeholders including donors, board members, volunteers, and staff. Experience in crafting compelling grant proposals, fundraising appeals, and donor communications is essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, foundations, and other funding partners.
- Experience in donor cultivation, stewardship, and major gift solicitation is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, and evaluate fundraising performance metrics to inform decision-making and optimize fundraising strategies.
- Commitment to upholding ethical fundraising practices, compliance with relevant regulations and best practices, and maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in all fundraising activities.
