Background and Rationale

Hoffnungszeichen tendersglobal.net Sign of Hope e.V. (SoH) is a Christian motivated organisation for human rights, humanitarian aid and development cooperation. From its base in Constance, Germany, SoH is committed to helping those in distress and exploited people worldwide.

SoH is looking for a consultant to support the preparation and facilitation of a virtual learning event (so-called WASH Session) which will take place on September 11, 2024. The WASH Session is part of a larger project which SoH is currently implementing together with several other partners of the German WASH network, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.

As part of the consortium, SoH is in charge of organizing the WASH session together with the partner Arche Nova. The session will be attended by approx. 50-100 persons representing a diverse group of technical WASH experts, practitioners working for NGOs and utility providers as well as local government representatives. Duties and Responsibilities

The tasks of the consultant will be to conduct home-based research, prepare an interactive presentation and to serve as main facilitator/presenter of the WASH session (approx. two hours). Desk-research and the presentation will focus on the implications of droughts/floods on WASH infrastructures and the resulting effects for local communities. Beyond and building upon this, the consultant shall present evidence-based examples and best practice of existing preparedness mechanisms in the WASH sector and elaborate on their sustainability as well as their shortcomings. The regional focus is East Africa.

Expected Deliverables

The Consultant shall produce the following deliverables:

  • Kick-off session with SoH to agree on methodological approach and priorities for the session
  • Actively and independently conduct research on the above-mentioned topics
  • Prepare an interactive presentation showcasing findings and practical examples (based on research findings) to the participants

(Part 1 of the session)

  • Serve as main facilitator of the Q&A and discussion session with the participants

(Part 2 of the session)

  • Prepare a short, consolidated report of the Q&A/discussion of part 2

Process/Timeframe

The WASH session is scheduled to take place on September 11, 2024, 9-11.30 am (CEST). All tasks (preparation & facilitation) can be done remotely.

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for a consultant with the following profile:

  • Technical expertise in the WASH sector, ideally familiar both with humanitarian work and development cooperation.
  • Experience in dealing with DRR/disaster preparedness.
  • Demonstrated strong conceptual, methodological and facilitation skills
  • Working experience in the East African Context
  • Experience with online facilitation and working with a diverse audience

The price (40%) as well as the qualifications (60%) will serve as selection criteria.
