As part of our ACT Peatland Initiative team we are recruiting a Peatland ACTION Project
Officer. ACT have been external agents delivering Peatland ACTION on the Isles of Islay &
Jura since 2022. This new post will be responsible for the delivery of Peatland ACTION in the
Kintyre areas of Argyll.

The role involves collaborating with partners, contractors, and land managers to develop and
implement peatland restoration projects as part of the Peatland ACTION programme.
Responsibilities include engaging with land managers, supporting application development, and
ensuring high-standard project execution.

The role involves a mix of desk-based and outdoor work, including travel to remote sites within
Argyll. A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential. The post holder can work
from home or the ACT office in Lochgilphead. This is a fixed term contract until 31st March 2026.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and deliver peatland restoration projects, assist with applications, and manage
    capital works.
  • Liaise with stakeholders like NatureScot, Scottish Water, and Argyll & Bute Council.
  • Assist in procuring contractors and achieving project milestones.
  • Use QGIS for spatial data and maps in project design and monitoring.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections.
  • Produce reports and updates on project delivery.
