Bat Conservation International (BCI) is a global NGO dedicated to the protection of bats and their habitats around the world. BCI is a rapidly growing conservation organization with a $20.7 million annual budget. The Institutional Engagement Coordinator will join a dynamic organization with an entrepreneurial environment where staff can bring their whole self to work, contribute to positive social and environmental impact, and work with a fun team.

BCI is a fully remote organization with staff working across the United States and abroad, with a main office in Austin, TX. The Institutional Engagement Coordinator can live anywhere in the United States. BCI’s core hours are 10am to 3pm local time Monday through Friday. However, BCI has a flexible work schedule policy, where staff can adjust their schedules for work demands and personal needs.

Position Description

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Engagement, the Institutional Engagement Coordinator will contribute to the stewardship and growth of key relationships with existing and new foundations and corporate donors, resulting in financial support of BCI’s mission. An ideal candidate will have an understanding of the donor stewardship process, possess exceptional writing and organizational skills, be a team player, and have a drive to foster partnerships with foundations and corporate donors.

Primary Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Maintain calendar of proposal and report deadlines
  • Institutional donor prospect research
    • Investigate and identify prospective corporate and foundation funding through Instrumentl database, directories, periodicals, and internet research; match prospective funding sources with funding opportunities and priorities
    • Maintain prospect list
  • Prepare and submit foundation grant and corporate sponsorship proposals and reports
    • Gather appropriate narrative and financial information, working with program and finance teams
    • Ensure submissions by deadlines
  • Assist with coordination for cause marketing partnerships
  • Assist with corporate volunteer events
    • Assist in coordination and logistics in scheduling with program teams
    • Ensure proper benefit fulfillment for sponsors, post-event follow-up
  • Donor recognition
    • Maintain records of recognition requirements for corporate sponsorships and foundation grants, including credit lines and logo requirements
    • Assist with corporate sponsorship benefit fulfillment for program sponsors and corporate sponsor volunteer events
  • Assist with donor communications and responding to current/potential donor inquiries
  • Prepare donor profiles for meetings; enter donor meeting reports into database
  • Maintain prospect and funder files and data in Instrumentl and Raiser’s Edge databases
  • Perform computer operations, e.g., list maintenance, updating donor records, and prospect data entry

Required Knowledge/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least two to three years of experience in development/fundraising
  • Able to balance competing priorities and multiple deadlines
  • Discretion and ability to handle confidential information with great sensitivity
  • Proficiency and ability to learn and utilize various types of computer-based software and tools (databases, Excel, Word)
  • Comfort and ability to work and communicate effectively in a remote work environment
  • Interest in engaging with different communities and developing opportunities that encourage and grow a diverse, equitable, and inclusive conservation community
  • Proficiency in written, verbal, oral, and interpersonal communication skills in English

Preferred Knowledge/Experience

  • Grant and/or sponsorship proposal and report writing experience
  • Knowledge of and experience in foundation and corporate giving
  • Experience in data management, monitoring fundraising metrics, and using data to guide decision-making
  • Experience in budget compilation and reporting
  • Knowledge of and experience working for environmental/conservation organization(s)
  • Experience with CRM system such as Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce

Compensation and Benefits

  • $65,000 annually, full-time salaried. Paid biweekly electronically or via check.
