About the Role:

The Head of Home and Living Services will be responsible for ensuring that Melba Support Services meet their vision, purpose and values across the Home and Living Portfolio. The incumbent will oversee the three Area – General Managers, Home and Living and will support them to deliver on the Melba Support Services objectives. In addition, in collaboration with the Melba Support Services Senior Leadership Team, the incumbent will identify opportunities and prepare business cases for organisational growth and development that meet the organisational objectives and expand service delivery within the framework of Melba Support Services Vision, Purpose and Mission.

With approximately 800 indirect reports, the incumbent will also be committed to the implementation of a ‘One Melba’ philosophy and developing and delivering a consistent, evidence based, best practice service delivery methodology across Home and Living.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Communicate Vision and Strategy: Champion and communicate Melba’s Vision, Values, and Purpose, ensuring alignment with the strategic plan and fostering integration and growth.
  • Risk Management: Assess, document, and mitigate risks arising from operations and service delivery, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all stakeholders.
  • Team Development and Retention: Cultivate a collaborative and positive team environment, addressing feedback, minimising turnover, and promoting a zero-tolerance stance on violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  • Community and Capacity Building: Collaborate with General Managers to develop and execute fiscally responsible business cases that meet individual needs and support community growth beyond NDIS functions.
  • Operational Excellence: Ensure compliance with NDIS policies, quality frameworks, and statutory requirements while embedding best practices in person-centred support across all service provisions.
  • Strategic and Financial Management: Oversee strategic and financial planning, managing budgets effectively, and supporting staff growth and development to enhance service delivery.
  • Human-Centred Leadership: Foster a high-performing, engaged team with a desire to provide outstanding services. Ensure workforce planning, conduct performance reviews, and support collaborative partnerships within the broader Melba Support Services team.
  • Innovation and Change Management: Drive innovation and continuous improvement across the organisation by supporting the change of systems, processes, and structures. Collaborate with the Human Rights, Practices, and Innovation Team to implement evidence-based practices consistently and support frontline staff development and education

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in disabilities, management, or related disciplines, with a strong foundation in the sector.
  • Outstanding knowledge of the legislative frameworks, trends, and government policies surrounding the disability services sector.
  • Significant experience in managing disability services across multiple locations, with familiarity in working across multiple enterprise agreements.
  • Comprehensive strategic management skills, including expertise in people management, financial oversight, and analytical decision-making.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative management skills, with a dedication to service excellence and the promotion of human rights.
  • Proven project management and contract management skills, including experience in the development and commissioning of buildings and services.
  • High-level organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work autonomously.

Requirements: A current NDIS Worker Screening and Working with Children Check (we can support you through the process of obtaining one or both checks if you don’t already have them).
