The WHO Western Pacific Region is made up of 37 countries and areas. Serving the diversity of people and health situations requires a solid understanding of the evolving and dynamic social, cultural, economic, epidemiologic and demographic patterns and trends and the development levels of countries and areas in the Region.
The Division of Programme Management provides overall direction and coordination of regional technical cooperation through programme development and operations, country support and editorial services with countries and areas in the Western Pacific Region.
Duties:
- Analyse and do research on the public health topics to contribute to the development of public health programmes and activities. A
- Assist in the monitoring of work plans and budgets including resource mobilization for the work programme and follow up on the implementation of planned activities.
- Analyse information on best practices in public health and health systems and report findings to the responsible officer.
- Provide support to the SKH programme and consultants by providing inputs on the design and execution of the SKH induction and day-to-day mentoring.
- Contribute to the capacity-building of personnel from the Regional Office and country offices, to utilize the hypothesis-driven and other approaches.
- Contribute to and manage projects using quantitative and qualitative research being undertaken by consultants.
- Prepare reports and/or presentations with appropriate data analyses, interviews, either through field participation or collection and analysis of available data.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Education
Essential:
- University degree in the field of natural and social sciences or related field from a recognized university.
- WHO only considers higher educational qualifications obtained from an institution accredited/recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED), a list updated by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Experience:
Essential:
- At least two years of relevant professional experience (e.g., public health, management consulting, research). Previous experience in conducting and managing research and performing quantitative and qualitative data analysis on public health topics. Proven experience applying the hypothesis-driven approach.
Skills:
- Knowledge of public health topics and health systems development and management with good understanding of relevant country’s needs, priorities, and policies, along with WHO’s policies, practices, guidelines and procedures in the related areas and ability to apply them in the country office setting.
- Ability to conduct research and analyse results, identify issues, formulate opinions, make conclusions and recommendations on prioritized public health issues.
- Ability to draft policies and objectives of assigned programme and activities.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
- Public speaking techniques.
- Excellent drafting and communication skills.
- Team spirit and time management skills.
- Excellent analytical, planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a team with limited supervision.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to demonstrate and commit to implementing gender equity and cultural appropriateness in the delivery of services to Member States and in all aspects of work.
