JOB SUMMARY

 

Senior Technical Specialist – Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM)

The Senior Technical Specialist – IMAM provides advanced technical expertise and guidance and typically lead the design and implementation IMAM component at federal, province and local government level. The role supports Technical Director to the design of nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive interventions, provides technical inputs to nutrition-related policies, guidelines, ensures the effective implementation, coordinates with government and non-government stakeholders, and contributes to monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL) activities to ensure program effectiveness and impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall design and implementation context-specific for improving IMAM component in coordination with the Federal, Provincial and Local government departments and units and other consortium partners.
  • Collaborate with all program components (nutrition-specific and sensitive) in developing and implementing interventions, and work to maximize IMAM program coverage, ensuring access for underserved and marginalized communities.
  • Design interventions and work with the government to prioritize early case finding and treatment.
  • Work with all levels of government to strengthen the quality of outpatient therapeutic care center, inpatient therapeutic care center, nutrition rehabilitation homes including management of moderate acute malnutrition so that patients receive care as long as it is needed.
  • Lead the project’s effort to develop innovative, scalable, affordable and sustainable models in IMAM.
  • Support government departments and units on nutrition and health at all levels to develop nutrition specific standard operating procedures, policies, action plan strategies, guidelines, and protocols.

  • Integrate quality assurance standards for nutrition service delivery and set up institutional mechanism for ongoing quality improvement measures at point of care and measurement of quality.
  • Work with health and nutrition services specialists based in provinces to organize training programs and capacity strengthening efforts for government health workers including those at the federal level.
  • Facilitate and manage research and assessments to identify gaps in nutrition service delivery, and lead the development of supportive supervision, quality improvement, and referral systems for facility-based service providers.
  • Ensure linkages with community-based integrated management of childhood illness and other relevant government programs.
  • Support to develop suitable job aids and social and behavior change communication materials Contribute to the preparation of program reports, monthly updates, semiannual technical brief and other necessary documents in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Ensure the integration of Gender and Inclusive Development principles into IMAM services at different levels.
  • Coordinate with the USAID Integrated Nutrition Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning team, the Integrated Health Information Management System section of the Department of Health Services to review analyses of IHMIS data on IMAM program and share with provinces and partner non-government organization’s teams for program learning and adaptation.
  • Manage local consultants and ensure high quality deliverables as needed and represent FHI 360 in external functions as needed.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public health, behavioral and social sciences, or a related field with five to seven years of experience in managing public health programs (nutrition preferred), or a bachelor’s degree with over seven years of experience as mentioned above.
  • Experience and understanding of the national nutrition program components and implementation requirements.
  • Experience in working and managing diverse team to implement public health programs—preferably with a focus on nutrition program.
  • Experience in leadership in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships and partnerships with consortium partners and major stakeholders.
  • Proactive in managing multiple tasks, managing and working in the virtual work environment, and flexible, adaptive and open to managing time as needed for and demanded by the project and for working with different teams in different time zones as needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, coordination and collaboration, team building and management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written English and Nepali including documentation skills.
