Bats are remarkable and essential to our environment. The Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) is the
foremost non-governmental organisation dedicated to bat conservation and habitat protection.
Our mission is to secure bats’ future in a changing world.

BCT actively works on a range of initiatives to create a better world for bats. We’re
passionate about preserving these unique creatures and are committed to welcoming like-minded
individuals who share our dedication.

We are now looking for a Head of Conservation Projects to join us on a part-time basis, working
22.5 hours per week across three days for a fixed term contract for 12 months. This post has
the potential to increase to more days per week and become a longer-term role, dependent on
future funding.

The Role

As the Head of Conservation Projects, you will lead the delivery of multiple conservation
projects, collaborating with a variety of partners and ensuring successful outcomes.

Managing projects at different stages of development, including current initiatives like Natur
am Byth and Gobaith Coetir – Woodland Hope, you will prepare new projects for funding,
represent us in high-level meetings, oversee project progress and ensure financial and output
targets are met.

You will also oversee the financial management of projects, ensure effective communication and
maximise opportunities for diverse community engagement.

Additionally, you will:

  • Line manage project staff
  • Assist in developing new project proposals
  • Support documents for funding submissions
  • Write and review quarterly reports and financial claims
  • Develop and promote collaborative partnerships

About You

To be considered as our Head of Conservation Projects, you will need:

  • Experience delivering, developing and managing collaborative, large-scale conservation
    programmes
  • Experience of line managing staff
  • Experience managing complex project budgets
  • Knowledge of developing and delivering conservation programmes
  • A good understanding of bat ecology and conservation
  • A good understanding of land management and the relationship with conservation objectives
  • A degree in ecology or a conservation related subject or equivalent work experience
