Evidence for Impact on Cash Programming for Child Outcomes: Event Design and Delivery

Background: Save the Children is committed to advancing evidence-based approaches in cash programming to support health, protection, and education outcomes for children in both development and humanitarian settings. We aim to organize an engaging event that goes beyond traditional formats, emphasizing the rigor of research on this topic, the diversity of cash programming to benefit children, and the impact cash has on children’s wellbeing. We want to bring our participants on a learning journey and share our excitement about the potential for cash programming to change children’s lives – at scale. The invite-only event will last one day and is planned for January 2025 in Washington DC. We expect approximately 50 people to join us in person.

Objectives: The primary objectives of this consultancy are as follows:

  • Event Design: Develop a creative, interactive, and innovative event concept that captivates participants and effectively communicates Save the Children’s evidence on cash programming.
  • Presentation Preparation: Assist in preparing high-quality presentations that convey key findings and insights using diverse methods of communication with impact. Ensure the evidence presented is compelling for the audience.
  • Presenter Coaching: Provide coaching and support to presenters, ensuring their presentations are compelling, engaging, and evidence driven.
  • Event Communication Plan: Develop a comms plan and multimedia products to disseminate highlights from the event, that can be utilized for fundraising efforts in future events.
  • Event Moderation and Documentation: Moderate the event to ensure facilitation and audience engagement as well as logistics run smoothly. Document key insights and highlights from the event in innovative ways.
  • Attention to Rigor and Evidence: Ensure that all aspects of the event adhere to rigorous standards and are grounded in evidence.

Scope of Work: The consultant/firm will undertake the following tasks:

  • Collaborate with our team to understand the context, goals, key messages and target audience.
  • Design an outreach and promotion strategy to ensure the invite-only event is well attended.
  • Propose diverse session formats that encourage active participation and learning as well as long-term engagement with our vision for an evidence-based strategy on cash programing for children’s rights.
  • Develop a detailed event agenda, including session objectives, formats, speakers, and timing.
  • Provide coaching to presenters on effective communication, storytelling, and data presentation.
  • Review and enhance presentation and event materials (slides, videos, handouts, etc.) for clarity and impact.
  • Incorporate feedback from stakeholders during the design process.
  • Ensure that all content aligns with our organization’s evidence base and messaging.

Deliverables: The consultant/firm will deliver the following:

  • Event concept and design proposal.
  • Event outreach and promotion strategy for invitees.
  • Detailed event agenda and run of show with session descriptions.
  • Coaching materials and guidelines for presenters.
  • Revised background and presentation materials, including graphic design.
  • Support during the event including facilitation and multimedia logistics support
  • Summary report of the event and multimedia products for dissemination after the event.

Timeline: The consultancy is expected to start the work in September and conclude by January 2025. The date of the event is to be confirmed.

Qualifications: The ideal consultant will possess the following qualifications and expertise:

We seek a consultant/firm with the following qualifications:

  • Proven experience in event design and facilitation, particularly in the development or humanitarian sector.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based approaches in development and humanitarian sector.
  • Proven experience in research translation into actionable insights and storytelling
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders (government, NGO, INGO, humanitarian / development professionals).
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Evaluation Criteria: Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in organizing innovative events and strategic communications. (40%)
  • Clarity and feasibility of the proposed approach and methodology (30%)
  • Budget and cost-effectiveness (30%)
